The view from the top of Penang Hill is very beautiful, but the trip to get there is quite stressful. We were there as an adult family of four and went as part of a Penang Hill and Temple tour. The funicular ride is horrible - it takes about 30 mins to get to the top and the tram is... more

Great views from the top but the journey in the tram to get there was horrible. Packed like sardines for 30mons each way (and I use the tube in rush hour every day!) The views from the top are spectacular if you can do the journey. we actually just took the public bus from the jetty (1.50RM each way) which... more

Park car just beside (left of) the tiny round-about & pay MYR3 to the pak cik guard. Walk into the historical British colonial building where the ticket counter is at. Purchase the tickets which are so cheap, MYR12 for 4 pax, to & fro trip. Sit around the waiting area cos the tram may take 20 mins or so. We... more

You can get a taxi to Penang Hill and get your taxi driver to wait for you. It shouldn't cost too much 80RMB at most. If you want to go up Penang Hill you better get there early. We got there at 11.30, lined up for our ticket and would have had to wait until 12.45 to go up. Lucky... more

Was at Penang for a weekend trip on 1st March 2008. Penang Hill seems to have a pull. We had limited time and didn't want to wait for the tram, which can be quite busy at times. Took a jeep up from the Botanical Gardens (RM60.00 for 4 - return). Loads of monkeys on the way up. They just don't... more

To go to the top of the hill requires a ride on a funicular railway which I believe operated in Swiss Alps once before the carriages made their way to Malaysia. The scenic journey takes half an hour and will lead to spectacular views of Penang. Once you get to the top it’s a good place to wander about and... more

Visited Penang Hill (immediately after visiting the Kek Lok Si temple, which is less than 5 mins away by taxi) on 7 Sep 2005. Was most intriguied by the Canopy Walk on offer, but we only found out after arriving at the foot of the hill that the attraction was temporarily close "for safety reasons". Anyway, much heralded was the... more
