It only takes a half hour to absorb the abience of this amazing Chinese temple. It is a large complex with many outbuildings. There is a small museum area mainly devoted to the geneology of the Khoo Clan. visited early in the morning , had the place to ourselves ,opens from 9-5 . there is a fee but i can not remember it being to much , very nice to see a wall of "pride"showing all the academic achievements of the clan , better than the usual wall of death. More

The guide book tells that when the clan house was finished it burnt to the ground which was a sign it was to ornate so they rebuilt it in a simpler style...wow..can not imagine it could be more ornate than it is, its just beautiful. I was especially interested to see all the plaques on the wall detailing the clan... More

MUST SEE historical place. Owned by chinese with sir-name Khoo, wealthy family, who are emigrate from Sin-Kang, China, since 200 years ago to Penang, amd involves thenselves in trades and other careers. Chinese architecture and shouldn't miss if you are architec students. Main buiding is Leong San Tong the clanhouse, and one opera stage. The stone carved work is fantastics. More

Khoo Kongsi is definately the best temple in Penang. The location is not so easy to find but when you get there you will be enchanted by the great architecture. Inside the temple there is also a museum and dioramas on how the life inside the Khoo Kongsi complex. More
