These are not your typical botanical gardens with well laid out beds in some areas- they are more like a well-tended forest. However, a walk here early morning is well worth the effort, and some of the flora was breathtaking. Be aware of the monkeys, they are extremely persistent and may also follow some visitors around, if they take a... More

Headline says it all. Our taxi driver drove us around, then we took the little tram but neither lets you see much and the promised commentary on the tram never happened. So we walked around to discover for ourselves what was there. The answer: not much. Moreover, most of the interesting plants were locked in giant (Quonset-hut size) cages. Signage... More

The place is not bad, but there is nothing special or extraordinary about the place. If you've been to Singapore's Botanical Gardens or Australia's huge parks, this will be a disappointment. If you're on a tight schedule, you can give this a miss.

I disliked the pesky monkeys that were bothering the tourists and the plant season is earlier or later than February.

Not a visit for the die-hard botanist, much of the floral variety may be present but poorly presented or described. This is more of an afternoon stroll amongst some pleasant foliage, but it is disappointing to see some of the one-time special areas (such as the orchid house) unaccessible. The famous or infamous feral macaques that live in the gardens... More

Brilliant nature. Lot of greenery, centuries old trees and lot of spice trees.. Nature in harmony at the best. Can go spend time for fun or spend time walking there.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Penang, the botanical gardens are a perfect place for some peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings. You can walk around for hours or be driven round if you wish. Lovely trees and plants, the monkeys can be a nuisance though, but they tend to be found near to the entrance.

Got bus 10 from ferry port, took about an hour to get there. Little shop to buy a drink but nothing to eat. Waterfall cafe outside gate of gardens for fast food. Hot and humid there today but park very nice, lots of amazing trees and plants all well cared for. Can't get up to waterfall as water treatment works... More

Unfortunately, the tourist train was not running and the sun was too hot for the walk. After about 20 minutes, we returned to our vehicle and the aircon. This would be worth the effort for a younger, fitter person.
