The site is typical buddhist temple in Bangkok, the Reclining buddha houses the cremation Jars. Infront of the Reclining Buddha is a automated wheel that randomly gives u a number which matches to a stack of papers where u will draw 1 sheet contaning your fortune. Fub to compare fortune papers. The Reclining Buddha is the largest Thai Buddhist Temple in Penang and has some very ornate statues. The Buddha is over 30 metres long and although not quite as impressive as the Bangkok version, it is possible to take a reasonable snap of the whole image. I was too late to have the chance to enter the main hall, the main hall closes at 5-5.30 pm hence I can only look at the reclining buddha from the outside. There is a big arc at the main entrance and several statues in the compound in front of the main hall, and colourful big and long dragon statues.... More

This is situated in the heart of Georgetown right opposite to the Burmese Temple. You can see as you enter how beautifully made temple this is with it’s prominent gold and red colours. The best part of this temple is the giant statue of sleeping Buddha. There are many Buddha statues placed around inside the temple in different poses and... More

Looking at this from the point of view of a tourist, the reclining Buddha, whilst large and imposing, is somehow lacking from a devotional aspect. The whole building has a commercial feel rather than a religious one. Pay for a "fortune" in the machine in front of the Buddha and you will most likely be told that you are "like... More
