If you are into food, this is a must do activity. We got picked up in the morning from the hotel by Pearly the "teacher". It was a joy to be around her. We went to a wet market with fresh fruits and vegetables, she told us what they are and we tasted and smelled them. After that we tried... More

I am actually from Penang originally and being in Sydney, you do get cravings for things which are sometimes not as easily available or as authentic as you recall. This was an excellent way to pick up a couple of recipes of things I have not been able to get right from following cook books. The recipes aren't dumbed down... More

My friend and I got more than we expected with this cooking class. It was an absolutely lovely day with amazing and interesting people. We were picked up and brought to a wet market where we got to learn a lot about local foods. We also tasted some of the most delicious street food that I don't think I ever... More

If you love the food of Malaysia as much as l do then learning to cook with Pearly is a great souvenir. My husband and a friend and l stayed in Penang for 6 weeks and it seemed as if every day's meals were better than the day before. As the time to leave drew near we realized we would... More

A wonderful way to learn about the food of Penang, we were collected from our hotel and met up the the rest of our group for a tour around the 'Wet Market' a truly fascinating experience with lots to see, taste and smell. Then back to the house for a cooking lesson. Delicious chicken curry, lacy pancakes, and prawn sambal. Pearly... More

I am happy you love our heritage lacy pancake and curry. It is a fusion between Indian and Malay food cooked by the Chinese. How about that. I always refer this to the harmonious fusion. Thank you for learning and eating our food. Definitely made my day when you keep going back to do the pancake and wiping the plate... More

Pearly was extremely generous with her time and was happy to answer all our questions and even went out of her way to take us to a local kitchen ware supplier so we could buy local knives and a claypot. Her tour through the market was fabulous as she told us all about the health giving properties of all the... More

We were so excited to meet the legendary Penang chef Pearly. We were picked up by her husband Chander, and met up with Pearly in the market. We had a nice sampling of many Penang market foods, and went back to her house for the cooking class. We made 2 dishes- Penang satays and pie tee. Pearly offered many useful... More

Pearlys cooking class is number 1 on trip advisor for a reason. We booked the class about a month out and she was very helpful assisting us with finding a time to suit due to our busy schedule. Our family visited Pearly TWO timnes during our visit in Penang. One great Saturday dinner/evening when Pearly made it all. Brilliant dishes !...completely different from what we'd experienced so far in Malaysia... And on Monday morning we're back in the cooking class. I am awarding your family the best family for the year for my cooking class. You children are simply adorable, though they are young adults but so well mannered. I look forward to seeing all of you again. Thank you for booking in advance our monthly dinner and cooking class. More
