Most of the cemeteries will create a horror within us, as we feel departed and alone, As such this is also a kind of cemetery but there is peace .. May all of them inside rest in peace ..!

Although we had previously lived in Penang, this was the first time we had been there. Seems to be well maintained, and map shows some of the main graves.

Ok it has a lot of old graves including the one of Francis Light but most of the names mean nothing to most of us. However a nice shady spot close to town for a walk and if you like a bit of contemplation.

I'm not a fan of cemeteries or religious monuments and such, but if you are this one is an interesting stop on a tour of George Town. Captain light and many of the early founders are buried here. The tombs and headstones are in various states of decay from constant exposure to the harsh seaside conditions of the setting, but... More

Loved the cemetery and intrigued by the youth of the deceased, wondering about the individual stories of each grave.

This is very interesting, very close to Penang Road and where the colonial founder, Light, is buried.

This small cemetery was a lovely, short diversion amid a city walk. The tombstones and epitaphs offer a glimpse into colonial Penang -- British agents of the East India Company, doctors, superintendents... There were even a few in Mandarin characters.

The cemetary is run down but still worth a visit. The number of headstones with young peoples details indicates the harshness of early days in the region. The inscriptions show a clear history of peoples background and reason for being in the area. The old Catholic cemetary is next door. The gnarled Frangipani trees are very attractive and provided cooling... More

If you have an interest in old cemetaries then this is one of the best to visit. Has been let go a bit since our last visit but still worth a wander round to get a feel of just who was in the area and be amazed at where these travellers came from to end up in a Penang grave.... More
