We're are on our honeymoon and as we'd done quite a bit of flying we decided to take the boat from Langkawi to Penang. When we got to the terminal, a man beckoned is on to a room at the side and said we needed to pay to have our cases loaded on board, and he made it seem as... More

The standard Penang-Langkawi ferry route costs RM70. If you are not in a hurry, enjoy a little adventure and local color you can do it yourself for RM36.30. Generally takes about an hour longer. 1)Cross Penang Harbor on the ferry to Butterworth, free in that direction 2) Leave the ferry and walk to the bus station 3)Go to bay 13... More

Very basic ferry service from Langkawi to Penang ! It's ok if you don't mind 3 hours long journey just seating in your seat !

Website for booking a ticket was faulty. it was not accepting my Indian credit card so hotel owner in Penang helped us. his ferry is positioned as just a mode of commuting. Sadly, it is not considered to be/ expected to be a tourist experience. it is easy to take ferry from Penang to Langkawi.

The ferry from Penang to Langkawi costs only 70 rm though the journey takes almost 3 hours. I have never travelled in such a dirty vessel, the windows hadn't been cleaned for some years and the customers were locked inside in gaso!ine smell without any refreshments. Luggages were piled where ever they could be fitted resulting in chaos when we... More

This is good and fast mode of transport to get from Penang to Langkawi. New airport-like harbour buildings on both side while the boat we had was old and had seen better days (the Thailand Lomprayah ferries are much nicer). For a 2 hour or so crossing the seats are small but it's perfectly fine. Didn't think it was freezing... More

Fast ferry service, easy to find at Penang, by the queen Victoria clock tower, and in Langkawi, at the main jetty. Not a lot to do, no food or drink available, but shops at each end so get something there if you can't last for the three hour journey. Some trips stop at Pulau Payar, but that doesn't make much... Hi all, after reading I'd booked flights to langkawi and then decided after much drama we would ferry back to Penang... Wish we had took the ferry both times so much easier, quite comfortable journey not too rocky, would re commend a jumper or scarf they live the aircon on there and bit of a bum fight over luggage at... Quick and easy way to country hop between Thailand and Malaysia. For around 300 TBH one way or 30 MR. Crossing was fairly quick ( around 1 hour ) the toilets are horrific! Go before or hold it in as I nearly borked at the smell when walking in and someone had even pooped in the sink. Lovely. Long customs... More

No flights out of Langkawi airport due to heavy haze. We took the ferry to Penang to fly out of the country. Surprise, the speedboat ferry was packed but comfortable enough for 3hrs crossing. The ferry was air conditioned and seats inside the cabine were clean. It-s a good budget travel. They should get slightly better organised in terms of... More
