To the people of Melbourne, Australia... This is NOT the Melb-tassie ferry... It looks like one of those vessels on the nightly news that sink in Asia, so be prepared, cause we weren't! It holds a couple of hundred people, is low to the water, noisy, basic with a tiny kiosk that sell packets of chips and soft drinks etc.... More

We were fortunate to have calm seas, you can check in baggage (baggasi) in Langkawi for a few RM if you have tine to kill and nip around the malls or go to Eagle square. Ferry had a film showing, so nothing to report other than at the langkawi end we got a trolley for luggage and no trolleys for... More

I was at the ferry terminal at George Town to take the morning ferry to Langkawi.Having bought the tickets through internet I went outside the terminal to get the boarding pass and waited in the line to take a seat in ferry. All the seat numbers are printed and one has to follow the numbers. There were excitements when someone got the... Thought it would make a change to travel by ferry but wasn't a great experience apart from only taking 2 1/2 hours to get to Langkawi from Penang. Took the 2pm fast ferry crossing, not many passengers and we were firmly locked in for the duration . Toilets were not pleasant , and think it would have been a nightmare... More

The 2 ferry companies that cruise from Langkawi to Koh Lipe advertise 1 ferry per day in low season (May-October 2015) on their web site (icl. promotional rates at RM80 per trip). I booked my stay in Koh Lipe on that basis. WRONG !!! When trying to purchase a ferry ticket on-line, there is actually none !!! I Now I... More

Came back from Langkawi to Penang recently on the ferry. Journey should have taken 2.45 hours but took 3.5 hours due to a broken propellor. So glad it was a smooth crossing! If you want to be able to see the film being shown (you can't hear it, but the dialogue runs across the bottom in English) get to the... More

The port are Dirty, crowded and flaming. That's the 1st imppression for us. And we're not impressed. We took one way ticket from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi by ferry. So disappointed. The restroom is very bad because so dirty and smell. But, the ferry service is good. Maybe the seat's distance is too short.

We took return trip ferry from Langkawi to Satun Thailand by June 2015. There are several counters located at the taxi station selling ticket to Koh Lipe, Kuala Perlis etc. The ferry is big. The staff told us anywhere can sit, no necessary follow the seat number. The trip took 1 hour. Quite a pleasant journey!
