We stopped for about five minutes, it is an interesting looking building and makes for some good pictures but we felt as if we should not have been walking around there.

Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar, the state mosque of Johor. The mosque was built in between 1892 and 1900 under the direction of Sultan Abu Bakar, Johor’s Sultan during those years. It was inspired by English Victorian architecture with more of the Moorish architecture elements. It has very colorful glass mosaics inside. Plus it sits on top of a prominent hill... More

One great mosque in Victorian architecture, not the common arabic. Relaxing view of sea & Singapore. Cannot enter the mosque once you're non-Muslim. Nice to take photos at the flag pole area so you can take the full picture of the mosque & you can breath & relax of fresh air overseeing the sea.

I think this is one of the most stunning older masjids in Malaysia. Perched on a hill and overlooking the Straits of Tebrau, the Sultan Abu Bakar Masjid is both majestic and a reminder of Johor's deep architectural history.

This mosque has complex blend of local architecture from Sultan Albert Bakar era with some influence of Ottoman and Mughal empire design. The location of it on top of the hill facing the Johor Straits (Selat Tebrau) making it as one of the benchmark of Johor Bahru. Sadly, it wont be able for visit for some period as the mosque...
