The cable car wasn't working but there is a bus. The zoo is predictably depressing and you would need to be less than 10 years old to find any of the rest of it at all interesting.

Old, soviet-type air-tram, small, but very appealing zoo, nice caffe with great Almaty view, nice attractive walk and even extreme "Russian roller coaster", all in one nice and comfortable trip. Do not drive there! Use the air-tram from the Abaya street, next to the monument (abaya / Dostyk (lenina)

Kok-Tube provides the best view of Almaty from above. That's perhaps it's only advantage. The hill is covered with trees and could have been a nice walking area. However, there are no trails going from the bottom to the top. Previously tourists could enjoy the funicular ride from Dostyk Ave to the top but that has been removed. The authorities... More

The first time I went was a few years ago when the cable car was working but this time it was under repair although a bus will take you to the top or you can walk if fit enough. However, to get to and from the bus you need a taxi and theses vary in prices. Typical kazak taxi drivers... More

Great view of the city cluttered by a few avenues of carnival rides and food vendors. Might be fun as a family; not very interesting for a solo traveler.

The cable car was closed for repair so it was ground transport. But sharing a taxi to the top with Chechnyan Andy and his two kids who I met at the (unsignposted) very under construction cable car terminal was a worthwhile experience in itself. Nice walk from the bus parking midway where most people catch the bus up and many... More

500 Tenge per person for a bus and entrance in to the park. Cable car was not working, it looked like it wouldn't we working for some time. There was a very sad looking "Zoo" at the top with some birds, chickens, deer and goats. We had a look round and an expensive, although tasty ice-cream, and took a photo... More
