Only stone walls are remaining at the place the castle used to stand. The place offers a nice view, a shrine and a couple of souvenir shops and cafes, but that´s all. Entrance is free.

A great location to hear about the history of Aoba-jo and an even better site to view the city of Sendai. Walking along the castle walls gives a great impression of the current and historical status of the area. There are some older gentlemen on the site that give lectures in English on the history of the site, the former... More

A nice park and grounds with some shops etc and great views of the city but little left of the original castle. Having said that it is well worth a visit if you have time to see the Matsuname statue. and the temple there. Its also free.

The ruins of the Sendai Castle or more populary known as "Aoba Castle", is on top of the Aoba Mountain. You can only see the castle walls and a few buildings that remain or were rebuilt. But it still has retained it's energy as a historical sight and best of all, it's a stunning scenic spot. I go there to... More

Since most of the comments are in Japanese I decided to write one in english. First of all: there is no Sendai Castle left. The main building (and from the look of it all other buildings as well) where destroyed around 100 years ago. This said, it is a nice place nonetheless. You get a great view over the city,... More

One of my favorite Japanesey touristy spots in Sendai. It is about 640yen to ride the Loople Bus for a day which takes you all around the city to the best tourist spots. Walking around the castle is FREE. The bus makes it's way up to the mountain top after a nice scenic drive through the city and over the... More

You can get a panoramic view of Sendai from the keep site, which features a statue of Masamune on horseback. Here too you can visit the Aoba Castle Museum, which displays a range of items related to Masamune. Take Sendai Loople Bus passing Tohoku university and stop at busstop#6. Don't forget to shoot panorama shot here too.

This was a stop on the Loop Bus that takes you to all the "touristy" spots around Sendai (620 yen/person/day). Worth seeing, nice view of the city and big buddha. No entrance fees unless you want to go into the museum. There was some little stores to shop at and several food options here as well.
