Excellent Gentle Walk

Pleasant walk along the stream bank with convenient bus stops for when you get tired. Walked in spring with azaleas in flower and new leaves on the trees.

Oirase gorge is a beautiful nature walk with natural waterfalls in the spring. Very nice to see the new life occurring through the leaves budding on the trees, with some snow still around. It is also beautiful in the fall especially when the leaves are changing colors. The water is fresh and you feel vibrant among the fauna. It is... More

I love Oirase. I lived in Aomori for 13 years, and visited often. I never, however, got use to all the tourist buses crowding the narrow road during tourist season, This is of course when Oirase is at its peak. So its a trade off. Winter is pretty much out of the question, as due to heavy snow fall the... More

14 km walk along the stream with many water falls and crystal clear water surrounded by giant trees. Come here in Summer and you enjoy wonderful Japanese nature! It takes about 3 hours by bus from Aomori. You may buy 2-days pass (5000 yen). It covers all bus trips around Hakkoda mount, Oirase river and Towada lake.

I walked along the Oirase River several years ago. I still remember fondly this experience. The leaves weren't at their most beautiful autumn colors, but the scenery nevertheless, especially of the waterfalls, was stunning. You can't get lost as most of the track lies between the river and the road which runs parallel to it most of the way. I... More

Amazing day trip along the Oirase river! We went in April but we found tons of snow and it just made everything magical!

For starter, one need to really plan one's itinerary before trying to walk the entire stretch of the river. Understand from the bus terminal staff from Lake Towada that the entire stretch of river is around 14km but most hikers will only start from Ishikegu aka 石ケ戸 towards Lake Towada ( being one of the very few resting points with... Great nature walk by a beautiful stream. Fantastic photographic landscape. The complete course takes about 2 hours and ends with a great view of Lake Towada.
