It was a good ride for viewing the "Sea of Leaves" below the cable car (if you got a spot near the window as it could be very packed at times), especially so during Autumn as leaves were changing into different colours. Be aware that the line could be lengthy and thus longer waiting time for the ride as it... More

JR bus interval is around 2 hours so there are enough time to go up and hike for half or 1 hour and come down and the scenery is very beautiful especially autumn leaves season (mid October) however US$15.50 round trip is too expensive. US$10 is desirable.

This ropeway cable car is well worth a visit! We were here in the middle of winter & very lucky to have bluebird skies for 3 of the 5 days! The cable car actually bumps into the ice on the sides just to squeeze into the top landing - great experience! Magical snowshoeing through the Tree Monsters (feeling the souls... More

Our host of the Ryokan in which we were staying took us here, and my word was it absolutely breathtaking. I couldn't have prepared myself for what awaited us. I am not a boarder or skier but I wish I was as this place is just perfect. Amazing fresh powder like no where else, and not crowded at all. The... More

We lucked out --the skies were a little cloudy at the bottom of the rope way, but clear at the top. The time? A weekend day at the end of August. As we were just casual hikers, we spent a happy hour walking the "Gourd Trail", which passed through alpine meadows and ponds of the area. Lovely views! The rope... More

Was a bus at 1.30pm to go back to ski resort. cost 500 yen. Recommend guide from Sukayu Onsen 4,000 for day in a group up to... More

October is the best time to visit the Hakkoda mountain range. I you are passionate about hiking, trekking and photography. You can either take the ropeway and once at the top you can take one of the several 1 hour, 2 hour hiking trails or you can take the plunge and spend a good 5 hours or so doing it... More

Hakkoda has the greatest amount of snowfall in the whole of Japan. Snow covers bridges and bus stations. Main thoroughfare opens only in April. Fantastic backcountry, accessible safely with local guides, either fr the Ski School (just next to Hakkoda Resort Hotel), ski guide club (in hotel Sansou) or private. We hiked tediously w snowshoes to be rewarded with wonderfully... More
