The Village is a bit hard to find, TA's directions take you to the Ishigaki Government building in the main town whereas the Village is actually on the road from the town to Kabira Bay in Nagura (enter '967-1 Nagura, Ishigaki,' in Google Maps to find it), there's no English signs to it but some large yellow Japanese flags/signs. The... More

We were told to not touch the monkeys, but no one told the monkeys. ha. They were all It sad to see the water buffalo being pulled by a ring in his nose round and round to make the grain. Poor animal. Other than that, we loved the village and the entertainment we were given by the performers.

This place houses a traditional village, but the main attraction are the squirrel monkeys. They will give you great photos and videos when you give them monkey feeds. One of the highlights of our Ishigaki trip.

Agree with other reviews praising the small monkeys. Makes for a very pleasant hour or two, depending on your interest and how busy your schedule is. Traditional Ishigaki houses are well kept. Effective evocation of a lifestyle of the past, that was precarious, industrious, simple, and, in the case of sea fishing, dangerous. In order to feel and appreciate this,... More

Okay . . . . his might seem like one of the cheesier places to visit, but I have to say that this place has been the hightlight of my trip so far!!! The park is about a 30 minute bus ride from the main terminal (bus number 9). Your dropped off at the main gate, and it just a... More

We rushed through the Okinawan traditional buildings somewhat, partly as we had been to a similar reconstructed village in the Okinawa main island last year. It was also ridiculously hot (mid June), and our young kids were just not that into the architectural aspects. Once our kids hit the monkey cage, we had a lot of fun though, and spent... More

Before you go to the village park, pick up their brochure at the airport or your hotel to enjoy 10% admission fee discount. Check out the Ya-Ashibi show schedule on the brochure and make a plan for a visit. Don't miss the 20-minute interesting and funny show held only three times a day! If you plan to feed squirrel monkeys,... More

Found the grounds to be interesting and well-kept. The squirrel monkeys naturally steal the show. These are light-weight little critters that will climb all over you to get a piece of food (supplied for 200 yen). Budget some time for this, especially if you have older kids and you enjoy things like this. We luckily arrived for some live sanshin... More
