The aquarium is compact but has a lot of fun. Many types of fishes including sharks are swirled around the water tank. Food feeding to fish is demonstrated and I learned sharks are very cautious to bite the squid fed. Demonstration of sea lion and dolphins is also well organized. Kids can play on a sort of sand beach. It's... More

We thought that the price was a bit steep at first, but it is well worth it. Fantastic collection of all sorts of fish, from common ones to others with surprising shapes. Seeing dolphins, seals and other large mammals swim in circles was sad sight for me though, which is why I can't give that place 5 points. If you... More

This disgusting place is directly involved with the removal of young dolphins from the wild that have seen their families slaughtered in front of them. Avoid. One day hopefully closed forever.

We visited the aquarium on a weekday, and bought the combined ticket for aquarium and Monkey Park across the aquarium. It was a quiet weekday, so it was not crowded. The animal performance shows were very enjoyable, even though it was in Japanese. We could touch, shake hands, and take pictures with the walruses. The dolphin show was great, and... More

I love this place so much! It's quirky egg-liked design, the attractions and stuff.. Though it was rather small place, it was very pretty and interesting place to visit. Love it sooo much!!

I have been to umitamago four times. Every time I went, I went on a weekday, except the most recent visit, which was a Saturday, in summer, near a holiday. All the times I went on a weekday, things were fine, but the weekend service was much lower and the crowds were just too much for a weekend visit. The... More

You can have a great fun day at this place. the scenery is beautiful, and the attraction really worth a whole day! There is a discount ticket for both aquarium and Monkey Mountain next to it, plus bus ride to the place from Beppu train station. Make sure to check the show times and don't miss dolphin and walrus shows.

Not big size but absolutely one of the aquarium worth going to. We especially love the Dolphin and Walrus performance. The smart and cute dophins wonderful jump impressed us, although they splashed water over us and we of course got soaking wet, and the huge walrus performed sits ups, playing flute, talking (sort of) and taking a bow (very Japanese)... The drive to Oita Marine Culture center made me a little uneasy. My company and I were traveling in a coach bus and being that Japan's roads are narrow, my heart dropped many times as we twisted and turned on sharp turns that had no blockages from the side cliffs and the ocean below. Aside from that, the beautiful surroundings... More

Not bad, learned a few things there, especially about Octopii and Squid. monkey Mountain is right across the street, so you can see two attractions at the same location. Visited more than 10 years ago.
