We wanted to visit the Kunisaki Peninsula. A TIC staff member helped us arrange for a bus tour by contacting the company for us, making our reservations, and explaining where we were to meet the bus and what to expect. Even though we were warned that the tour would be in Japanese, it took us where we wanted to go... More

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. They do speak limited English. I wanted to book a couple of tours around Beppu but I found out the tours are not offered in English. I had to join a Japanese tour group and try to understand what was being said.

This was a large visitor center with a special counter for non-Japanese travelers. Staff was very helpful, and offered to ring up bus company for exact time schedule, and ropeway company for its operating conditions.

I think the Train Station information desk with English language translation is excellent... however... I am coming back to Beppu from the USA in Early April 2013 and wondering if any artists can give me more information than what I'll find at the tourist desk at the Beppu Train station. I am looking for sketch groups, figure or landscape, I'm... More

There was a lady who spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable of the area indeed. The station has a branch of a favourite Japanese bakery of our's in Hong Kong called, The Little Mermaid, and it has a small sitting area so you can request your bread and pastries to be warmed and eaten on-site.

The quality of assistance (in English) is generally very good here. Maps and brochures will be provided. Good English spoken most of the time and there is a dedicated area for English-speaking tourists to ask questions. However we also had a bad experience when information about travel to Mount Aso crucially failed to include the fact that the train currently... More

The volunteer helper here spoke excellent English and helped us with maps, bus schedules, advice about where to go and notes to help us remember all she said. She sold us the 2 day bus pass (1500 yen). She was patient, friendly and kind. After we left her we knew exactly what we wanted to do in Beppu, where to... More

I am glad I stopped by here to ask for more info because there are literally no English spoken in Beppu. Very difficult to find bus schedule or route online for Beppu. so, please do yourself a favour to ask as much as you can while you are here.

The staff here were willing to help in every way. They provided us with information on where to catch buses, timetables and discount vouchers for the different attractions. English speaking staff with a lovely smile to greet you.

They speak a bit of English and they did what they could to be helpful. I'm sure they're great for Japanese speaking tourists. They have maps and the JR car hire is on the outside of the same train station centre and a few shops down. The maps don't show all the little roads though so it's easy to get... More
