Huge landmark to visit

Very interesting. Huge place and takes about 2 hours to finish the whole palace. Worth going especially it took the Japanese almost 2-3 years to restore it.

If you have been to original castles then you can skip this concrete recreation. The exhibition inside is minimal. The grounds are nice and the, original wooden, Uto turret is worth visiting.

I went there with my husband, 2 daughters & parents in law. It's a good place to take photos & learn history and architecture of Japan. The maintenance of the castle is very good.

Was lucky that I visited right after having early lunch, where there is less crowd. Managed to climb 2 flights of stairs (for the bigger "tower" and the smaller one) to the top for a view of the city.

If you are in Kumamoto, then this is a must-see. However, it is not as large as some of the other ones we have visited.

We've visited the Osaka Castle and the Nijo Castle. The Kumamoto Castle is just as beautiful. There were stunning paintings inside the castle, don't miss them ! We couldn't take our eye off ! Also some ninjas ad samurais outside waiting to pose for pictures if you are keen. Easy access with the city tram. A kind volunteer gave us... More

Saw a couple of staff cosplaying as ninjas and samurai. Good place to see cherry blossoms and also admire the beautiful landscaping, the view from the top of the castle is also pretty good.

Every time we go to Japan we end up here, even when staying in Tokyo we take the bullet train all the way down to the island of Kyushu, they now offer tours with English translators too if your Japanese isn't quite up to par and they are beyond friendly and helpful. This tour gets better every time we do... More

BEatiful place. It is huge. Take at least 2 hours to go there. Maybe more. From there, you have also a beatiful view of Kumamoto City. The history of this place is amazing. Be careful, there is a lot of places in there where you can not take pictures.

Being fan of medieval Japan this place was a must see during our one day stop to Kumamoto - not really much to see there, but the feeling is unmatched. Highly recommended.
