Explained a great deal. The show was in English and explained the development of modern Japan. A very worth while experience, giving clear ideas and displays.

We were so pleasantly surprised by our visit. English audio tours provide entertainment for kids. Two excellent shows on the Satsuma scholars and the history of the Meiji restoration were translated into English and very informative. We only had an hour, but wish we had more time. Great for kids and adults! Also the historical path by the river is... More

The museum offers a variety of language audio guides which were very nicely done (we had both the English and the Korean). The 'puppet' show that runs several times a day is very worthwhile and informative. The Atsu-Hime display was impressive, and the basement floor has lots of touch-and-play types of displays which I had fun with and I think... More

I was actually on a city tour (Japanese) with my wife and this was our first stop. While my time was limited the museum staff went out of their way to ensure that I received a visitors guide in English. My brief view of the museum showed that there were a number of English explanations and I understand that headphones... More

The museum is slightly mislabeled. About 1/3 of it is related to the Meiji Restoration, and that 1/3 is exclusively focused on the role played by Kagoshima natives. More attention is given to Kagoshima's role in modernizing/industrializing Japan, with a section about some local girl who was the only outsider to marry into the Tokugawa Shogunate. The real point seems... More

the museum sounded intriguing. However, I actually found it difficult to understand the concept and layout of the place, i.e. how to approach it how to follow the exhibits. Most of it being in Japanese didn't help. Headphone with some English guidance are available, but even that offered only moderate help. There are 2 shows that last some 20 minutes,... More

Please do visit the two fabulous presentations in the theatre. There is a plug in for English (free) and an audio guide als free. Not a lot of non-Japanese visit this museum, but it is well worth the visit!

The display are all very interesting even with video role play game (but in Japanese only). I particular love the 30 minutes drama describing what happened during Meji Resotration (the reform of Japanese govement). There was English tape so you will not totally lost. I definitely love the added bonus of the Atsuhime (篤姫) kimono display. So pretty!
