This place is fine if you want trendy brand-name clothes and fashion, but otherwise not much there. A few cheaper stores in the basement.

Visited Fukuoka in May (2014) for 3 days and stayed at Washington Hotel located in the canal city. Really nice shopping area with lots of places to relax and quite the colorful architecture. Would go back again!

Fukuoka is a department store haven. Canal City had tons of fun shops to go in. We found a toy shop full of our favorite Japanese characters for our little one. This is also very near the canal where there is some fabulous street food.

When it's hot, just walking from one shop to another may be sweat intensive. But that's the design of the mall. Open spaces, au naturale along a water themed thoroughfare. You may handle some ice blocks along the way but that just gets your hands wet. A good selection of eats in the mall and a good selection of shops.... More

I went there for having lunch at Ichiran Ramen on B1 floor which contained lots of restaurants. I didn't go up to the other floors but I saw lots of people with lots of shopping bag, so I think you may like it if you like shopping. Canal city located near the canal but not quite close to subway, so... More

On our second last day of our trip, we finally made it to Canal City Mall and parked our car in the mall multi-storey car park. As we were not craze for shopping, we didn't expect much. However, surprisingly, my beloved found the small Moomin Cafe and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea there. There were big stuffed Moomin characters... More

Canal City has tons of shops to choose from, spread out among 5 different floors and 3 different buildings. We visited twice and still didn't have a chance to see everything. The Raumen Stadium on the top floor of the main buildings is a great place to sample the famed Hakata Ramen. The bottom floor is where the fountain show... More

Maybe it just seems like the Japanese love to eat and shop all the time. There were many cute shops that sold a lot of goods that Hakatans love. Watching the children at the water zone was immensely entertaining.

They seem to build everything "big" in Hakata. Canal City is no exception. It is a very large mall with anchors such as Uniqlo, Llaox, Coach, Zara, Benetton, Muji, and Ramen Stadium. It is the picture of the new, large mega-type malls appearing in Japan.
