This is a must see place in Tokyo to see the more modern, geeky affair. Filled with electronic shops, figurine places, manga stores, and sex shops, Akihabara is a unique experience that should not be missed. Weekends are best because the close down the main street to allow you to go for a walk. More

Brought our daugher here afer she spent 12 weeks in Fukuoka at language school. She was overloaded with all the choices in old and new manga and games. There are used book store where she was able to complete her collections for a tenth of the price paid in the US. They have great maps at the tourist info. Every... More

A must visit district when in Tokyo to view anything and everything electronic! You can spend the whole day browsing through and trying out all the new gadgets displayed! The technogeeks playground! More

Akihabara, or Akiba, is home to hundreds of electronic stores and Anime/Manga-related hobby shops. You'd have to do some research beforehand using sites like kakaku.com, and compare the prices carefully at Yamada Denki store etc., and negotiate with the salesclerk to get the best prices. I visited Akihabara wiyh my husband and some friends who are all tech-freaks and I was very excited by the hundreds of technology-shops and the neon-lights! People may ask, why I visit this place once in two months... For the simple reason, it changes almost every monty... The old shops are gone... replaced with skyscrapers (sort of).. Great place for shopping for electrical gadgets and seeing Otaku culture. The freaky street performers have moved away but the AKB47 soundtrack remains. More
