We went up the mountain top by a ropeway . There is a chipmunk park!!! They are very small, cute and nimble. They're timid, but come out of their nest and eat the sunflower seeds from our palms. So pretty. We enjoyed the grass bobsled. We can change the speed of it. So much fun! There is a small museum about... More

On a clear day the view over Otaru is terrific. Skiers will love the slopes and for those not up to the slopes there is a good place for sledging near to the lower cable car station.

Our tour guide brought us to Mt Tengu during our visit, assuring us that it was one of the best tourist attractions at Otaru. The trip to the summit is a rather relaxing one; all you have to do is take the ropeway all the way up to the top. True to its namesake, you’ll find the mask of a... More

I was lucky to have the opportunity to see Otaru city in the day time, sun set and night time. The view from Mt Tengu was simply amazing. I stayed and venture around Mt Tengu for 2 hours just to do so. Trust me, it is worth it. The sun set around 5.30pm when I was there. It is quite... More

We took tour bus up to the mountain, there is a Robeway to bring up. We enjoyed the trip and we were lucky, we reach there just before sunset and we get to see the sky turn from orange, reddish, purplish and darkness. But you need to watch timing to ensure that you catch the bus back to JR Otaru... More

We are Japan skiing fans! Hokkaido has some of the best powder snow in the world and Mt Tengu and Otaru and one of the great places to experience this..great small tourist city and an easy access city mountain only 10 minutes from railway station by locals bus. You can even overlook the ocean and the picturesque city as you... More

Frequent gondolas take you up/down the mountain, which is basically a winter-sport mountain, but nevertheless well worth a visit at other times of the year. We went in May - the weather was nice enough to be carrying my jacket, yet the snow was shoulder high as we walked along the cleared path! (Apparently the snow was somewhat heavier this... More

Although this areas is a relatively small ski area - there is some great off piste runs, that are steep and deep and challenging. The trees at 4pm are still packed with powder and fresh lines and face shots were enjoyed fro early morning to late afternoon. For the non-skier or after skiing there is a small museum of ski... Ski slopes here for skiers - beginners or advanced. Ropeway/gondola goes up and down at designated times - about every 12 mins. Fantastic view of surrounding mountains, town and bay. Restaurant at top has binoculars. Also have a small ski museum. Base of Mt Tengu is a Glass studio - closed on Tuesdays but gift shop is open.

the view from the top was beautiful! Also, i was not expecting it to be an open air observatory! It was snowing lightly that day as well so the atmosphere was simply magical. From otaru bus terminal, it was a short 10-15min ride out and cost only 200yen. There was also a ski museum as well as a tengu mask... More
