There is not much to see near the canal. Dont imagine like the beautiful canal cruise in europe. However, there are many reataurant and cafe nearby where you can enjoy

Does not really think this is too much of a great attraction. However, if you have nothing to do, and would just like to have a relaxing stroll along the canal, it is still quite peaceful and tranquil to take a walk during winter. However, the only spoiler is you may get to see a lot of tourists as part... More

This area of Otaru is beautiful during the winter lights festival when the canal is lined with candles.

It is a nice picturesque spot that can be walked in about 20 minutes. But it is what it is, just a canal with some overpriced shops that parallel it. Totally overrated attraction

Went to Otaru Canal last Nov. It wasnt snowing yet so the place looked a bit boring. From most pics that I have seen (during heavy snow - winter season), the Otaru Canal looks beautiful. We went there at about 6 + pm and it was totally empty, no one around and shops around were all closed. The next morning... More

We went by the canal straight from the taxi - it was a pleasant enough place, with a few eating paces but seemed very quite when we turned up - we ate some chicken from one of the local stalls and well, it's probably a good idea if you are in Otaru - but there id a really good food... More

- Picturesquare - Beautiful at day but tranquil and romantic at night when they light up the path - Short walking distance but it's good enough - Slippery because the path is cover with ice and snow, be careful - Take a whole lot of pictures!

We visited in February 2013. The area is small enough to cover with young children. It's really cold so we ended up going in to pretty much every shop to get warm before venturing out again. Streets are covered in snow and ice. I wouldn't recommend a stroller.
