We had been there at night on winter - lot of wind and snow. It is nice to walk along the canal with someone you love.

I'd say I was pretty much underwhelmed. The fact that the canal cruise was not operational on the days I was there probably didn't help either- but I really don't see a reason to bother to go on this too. There were a bunch of old warehouses on the other bank, but that was it. Best to check out the... More

Nothing much to be seen at night during November. Light only comes up on the last week of Nov. Was a disappointed one. Two famous sushi outlets was right beside the canal.

Unable figure out how to submit restaurant review for this ramen restaurant not listed in TripAdvisor nor how to add new restaurant review so we would like to submit this restaurant review under Otaru Canal listing. Our family went to this Otaru ramen restaurant while walking along main Otaru Canal shopping street and we experienced the worst customer service by... More

Despite that February is the coldest month in Japan, tourists flocked here for a glimpse of the Otaru Snow Light Path Festival. It is held at every starting of February until its third week. Be ready for chilling cold here even though the view of the canal in the evening is truly charming. From JR Otaru Station, walk straight down... More

A short stretch of canal and river, good for some photos but recommend to move on to sakaimachi street thereafter for really cool shops selling decorative glassware, bags etc

Also take a historical walk around the third oldest railway of Japan. Stroll the... More

The main attraction of Otaru got to be the historical Otaru Canal lined with old Victorian-style gas lamps. There are charismatic warehouses dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the opposite side. Of course the best time for a stroll is when the lamps are lit. It is a beautiful night view!
