Not so much to see in spring time, maybe winter time will be much more beautiful. Nothing much to do, only walk around the canal on one side. Found an artist who can do name from wire for necklace or pin. on the other side, can visit Otaru beer but not much to see too.

You must come here to feel the spirit of the city. No matter in the day or in the night, you can feel the conflict between modern and old time of Ortaru.

The canal area is around 15 minute walking distance from JR Otaru Station. The canal together with the old warehouses at the background give travellers a quiet atmosphere for photo-taking. The scene should be more attractive by night-time with light illumination at the surrounding. After the walk, you can have food in the hotel coffee shops or special sushi restaurants... More

Canal and the surrounding old warehouses gleamed beautifully on a freezing but crystal clear day. We took in a rickshaw ride and had a great little tour - cliche I know but he had blankets and it was so cold! The surrounding main streets were super tourist with busloads filing in and out. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.... More

Take a relaxing walk in this canal area, appreciate the related historical info and enjoy canal scenery. There are some cafes in the vicinity selling delicious desserts and specialty shops selling local souvenirs.

The canal area has restaurants, tours, loads of shopping and food - it's ideal for whiling away time doing nothing, quite enjoyably.

The canal was used for a good transportation. But, today it is just a place to visit. But, next to the canal. it is a small road with may small and cute shops. Especially the glass product shop and Cheese Cake and a lot of a soft ice scream shop available to try. It also a music box shop where... More

The canal goes through the centre of the old town. There are lots of cute shops to explore and the locals are all friendly. On a nice day you can wonder for ages.

Interesting small town. Along the canal you can find all kinds of restaurants, gift stores(especially those famous glass crafts) or snack bars. Quite good for solo travelers or 2 or 3 friends wandering along with. I personally recommand the Hokkaido crab dishes here,
