Firstly this cycling tour is not in Takayama. It is in Furukawa, a 17 min train ride away (free to JR pass users) on the local train. Secondly, the communication before the trip with Mayumi San was excellent. She also speaks French. The snows had just melted last week, so Satoyama were almost full and they had to arrange a... More

I went there with two friends, it was one of my best day in Japan, our guide named Hisa, really a cool guy. All the staff was really gentle with us ! I highly recommended the 22km of bike. Alex

With a JR pass you can get to almost anywhere in Japan easily and inexpensively, and a detour to Hida Furukawa was certainly worhwhile. For our group of five Australians, the half day walk led by Hisa of Hida Satoyama Experience turned out to be a highlight of our three week trip around Japan. Hisa provided plenty of interesting information... More

Our guide, Hissa, was friendly and very informative. He clearly loves the countryside and the traditional Japanese way of life, and he made sure that not only did we experience a slice of that idyllic lifestyle and scenery, but also that we had a great ride too!

Our tour group consisted of 8 people from 3 different countries (UK, Thailand and Malaysia). Hisa-san was a very able tour guide with excellent English speaking ability (with a little Australian accent). Hisa-san gave a rundown of what the typical Japanese countryside was like and also explained about the architecture and history of Hida and the surrounding region. We were... More

We were lucky enough to be the only two people on the half day bike tour at the end of March 2014. Our guide was Hisa, who was fantastic - giving us lots of information about surrounding scenery and buildings, answering all our questions, and even taking time to explain all the local produce in a nearby food shop. The... More

We scheduled this months in advance through their website and emails. Mayumi was very gracious and helpful throughout guiding us through. We stayed in Takayama and took a 20 minute train to Hida Furukawa to get to Satoyama. The small town is big on personality, fully expressed by the Satoyama Experience group! We got there a bit early on a... More

We visited the Hida region end of March 2014 and were lucky to do the Satoyama cycling tour as I think it had been snowing a week before. Luckily we were able to still see some snow, especially coming from Australia which has very little snow!! Hisa was our tour guide and took us around the outskirts of Hida (we... More

Wow it was cold and wet. Nothing you can do to control that so we decided to do the walking tour instead. Well worth it. Lovely place and hardly any tourists. Guide was great and had an excellent time.

We visited Gifu region (Shirakawa, Hida, Takayama and surroundings) in April 2014. It was easy to make a reservation on the Internet a few weeks before our arrival in Japan. Our guide has been the kindest, the ride was exciting and plenty of things to see and discover as we stopped by every now and then to listen to him... More
