We visited by 6 members by motorcycle. We reserved 1 room in total 6 members. Building structured old and new mixed. My favorite is old side building. It has nice smell and history. Onsen of outside is so large. If you need your private small onsen, you can reserve it. Staff of this hotel are so kindly for travelers. We... More

We had a ticket that included return bus from Takayama, both rope ways at Shinhotaka, entry to the onsen at Hirayu bus station and a drink at a doughnut at Hirayu bus station all for 6690 yen. The onsen was very nice and the water lovely and hot, there is also another bath outside that I didn't visit. The view... More

The public onsen here, mentioned by another reviewer, is an incredible find!!! 500 yen, with sulphurous goodness and blue, milky water baths all over the place. You can just feel those mineral rich waters working their healing effects, or maybe that's just the cardiovascular strain of the hot pool, cold pool circuit... So get off the bus, walk up the... I found getting info about travel and this town quite difficult so thought I would post some of my notes. Hirayu Onsen is a small, unattractive transport hub between Takayama and Matsumoto, with 1/2 hourly connections to Kamikochi taking 25 mins. The mountains are close, although blocked frequently by the Stalinist 1970s buildings. Shops and cafes except for Café Moustache... More

The onsen in the 3F of the bus station building is TERRIBLE. The water in the showers was freezing cold! I saw an old woman who didn't even wash before stepping into the onsen baths because the shower was too cold for her to use.The outdoor baths looked dated and dirty and the female changerooms only had 1 working hair... Many people stop by at Hirayu Onsen to get a dip into the Onsen pool. I am specifically writing about this specific Onsen which my friends and I (8 of us) had a wonderful experience and vouch that we must let the wider public know about this gem in this area. Hirayunomori is a public Onsen where walk-in patrons pay... More

Hirayu onsen is about two third the way to Shinhotaka ropeway. It is best visit when u came back from Shinhotaka en route to Takayama. Its a compulsory bus stop. If u bought the combo ticket of 6690yen, u will have that service coupon for free entry to hotspring bath here together with a meal voucher u can use to... More

Stop at Hirayu for a wonderful Onsen experience on the way back from Shinhotaga to Takayama. It was really relaxing after a half day hike. Onsen after a good hike is a must. Love it there

We love the Hirayu because it's a remote place without crowded. It's surrounded with mountain ranges with snow on top in Spring. The temperature is really good and is lower that any city nearby. If you drive from Takayama to Hirayu, You will enjoy very good snow and mountainous view. There are a few attractions around also and there are... More
