Incredible view, 90 minutes on bus from Takayama. Journey is also amazing. If you're interested in trying onsen, there are some places of easy access around

Absolutely beautiful view of the mountain. What a fantastic way to experience of the Japanese Northern Alps up close. There is food and hot springs at the top of the mountain too that is easily accessible.

We made our way to the rope way after spending a night in Kazeya (Shinhotaka onsen) and although it was really cold (for us anyway coming from an Aussie summer) the trip was well worth it. Get up their early if you can and make time to do some of the walkways cut out of the snow. They are fun... More

We nearly did not go here as it was almost 11am by the time we got on a bus to go to the Ropeway. So glad we did this trip. It was a really amazing experience. Truely a winter wonderland with snow as Thick as I have ever seen and views I will never see again. If you are in... More

This was an enjoyable experience. You can catch the bus from Takayama bus station and go up to the ropeway on it. You can get different deals. We got the one where u get a 3 day pass with ropeway and hotspring with snack. It was cloudy when we got to top bug still a nice experience.

It is a good place for non skiers to enjoy powder snow, amazing Japanese Alps view and almost "all white" scenario. It's very cold so wearing an ear muff helps.

The Shinhotaka Ropeway was amazing. We were fortunate to have a sunny clear day and there was plenty of snow. It was like a winter wonderland. We took a bus from Takayama about an hour or so up to the start of the ropeway and then took 2 ropeways up to the top. the view of the alps was stunning.... More

As advised by other reviewers, we bought the combo ticket from the JTB counter at Takayama which was really worth it. The bus ride from Takayama to Shin Hokata was over an hour but it was a scenic ride. We stayed for a night in one of the ryokans near the Ropeway and the combo ticket included the return bus... This ropeway is famed for the view rewarding those who take the trouble to queue up, and change once to take two cable car rides to view the Shinhotaka range. To be fair, right down at the ticket kiosk, they had a sign for us, saying it is low visibility. Of course, having travelled that far, we took our chances... More
