The ropeway takes us all the way up in what felt like 10 minutes. You can still see snow capped mountain peaks all round. It may be because I visited in early April, so there was not much else to do besides taking photos of mountain landscape. Taking a walk around is snow and more snow. In comparison, Kurodake in... We went during winter hence much lesser crowds and we took a bus from takayama station ( just beside train station you can find various coach to different location it cost us around 6500yen / pax - include the ropeway - both way ) which worth the value. Along the way there's many Onsen and finally we reached the destination.... More

We arrived on 7 Dec, it was snowing and visibility was about zero. My father and I did not go to the top, just the first ropeway. But my sisters went. They said they saw nothing except a snowman. It was -7C up there and the toilets were not working. I saw a small black bear on the top of... More

The Shinhotaka ropeway was kind of a last minute decision to give it a shot as we do not have much time to spare before catching the train to Haneda Airport for home. And I must say that this ended up being the crème of the crème attraction of our holiday! A very memorable finale indeed. We got our ticket... More

We drove about 20 minutes from Hirayu Onsen to Shinhotaka Rope-way. We only took a ride on the second rope-way as we only wanted to see the view from top of the mountain. It cost 2,700 yen for the return ticket. We could not see clearly from inside the gondola as we were squeezed in the middle of it. The... More

Would recommend driving as it was more flexible especially travelled with young children .BTW, remember to ask for car with English GPS and winter tyre. View from the viewing platform was simply awesome. We were lucky to have a cler mountain view... More

A 2-stage cable car ride to the top. Not cheap - go only on a clear day. Views from the observatory is stunning.

We stayed nearby and took the Shinhotaka Ropeway up the mountain then hiked around the summit. Our 1 year old daughter loved the cable cars that made the ropeway so it was a great adventure for her. There is a small restaurant at the top that serves noodles and a few other dishes that was OK (not spectacular, but we... More
