The Ropeway is a cable car ride up the mountain. You do have to walk up steps to get to the cable car station. I have bad knees and so I walked up the stairs slowly. The cable car is a double decker, but there is not enough seats for everyone to sit down. Some Japanese people noticed my difficulty... More

I'm not a Ropeway person so when I arrived at Shin-Hotaka I was shocked to see the expensive admission prices. However after taking the Ropeway I can now see why people like cable cars. This cable car went extremely high and dropped us off at the top of a mountain which was surrounded by several other mountains. There was still... More

The highlight of this attraction in my opinion is not the ride on ropeway 1 or 2 but the scenery at the top of ropeway 2. Many people are packed into each cable car to get everyone to the top and most people need to stand up. We saw a fantastic school band perform on a Saturday at the top... More

Actually it is pronounced "Shin-Hodaka" . It is really worth visiting but only on a perfectly fine day. I also suggest your taking the first bus, at 07:00, from Takayama JR station bus terminal because during the lunch time the cable car is filled with the tourists from all over the world. If you take an early cable car you... More

We were lucky enough to have a perfectly clear day for our visit to the Shinhotaka Ropeway, our tour guide changed our itinerary to make sure the visit was worthwhile. The first cable car can get quite crowded as it is smaller than the second. The view from the top viewing platform was amazing with the snow covered mountains and... More

I took a gamble on the cloud clearing at the top but unfortunately it didn't so there wasn't the spectacular view I'd hoped to see. Everything else about the attraction was fine and seemed very well maintained and safe.

We were lucky to visit the ropeway on a beautiful clear day. It is quite amazing how many people can be packed into the first leg of the ropeway. The second stage is much better due to the cars being larger and double decker. The views are wonderful and there was fun tobogganing after the first stage and walking around... More

The ropeway is split into two instead of a continous cablecar ride like the one on Sentosa Singapore, for example, so you have separate stations for traveling between the lowest level to the middle, and another for going between the middle and the highest level. I bought a three-day Nohi bus pass, from the Nohi bus terminal next to JR... More

Lower ropeway is not operational, there is a shuttle service to Ropeway 2 that operates till 2:40pm. Make sure you arrive before this, we didn't catch the last trip, waited for the return bus instead.

We went to the JTB office near the station intending to buy tickets the first week of February. The JTB lady explained that JTB was not selling tickets at that time because there had been an accident on the lower ropewa (with one person injured?) And the cause hadn't been determined. The upper ropeway was still open. I have been unable... More
