We had a half clear day and loved it. Took the local bus with coupon from the train station travel agent for bus, cable car and Hiram Onsen. We took bus in morning, rode the cable cars, hiked a bit then took bus to onsen for a hot soak. Wonderful day. Travel agent at station charged 5150 yen for the... More

Shinhotaka Ropeway is touristy experience overall. Take a cable car that swoops from Station 1 to Station 2, then another from Station 2 to Station 3. We came from Takayama and bought the 3 day bus at the Takayama Nohi Bus Centre at 6690 yen which includes the bus fare from Takayama to Shinhotaka, the cable car return trip from... More

Just one hour and forty five minutes nohi bus journey you could reach the Shin Hotaka Ropeway....and later (another 20 to 30 min for ropeway journey) seeing the majestic snowy mountain view, even in Spring time! It is an unforgetable trip to me and my travel partner. There are few options of bus trip packages...the one we bought was from... More

This is a place that no one should miss while in Japan. We bought a bus ticket to this place at the tourist information counter. It was a package that covers a ride to the alps by the double ropeway and entrance pass to the on sen. It was a good bargain as it was about 60% of the normal... More

You definitely get nice views of the alps from the top of the Ropeway but it's a bit touristy and it seems more rewarding to view the alps from Kamikochi area where you have the Taisho pond...not sure if the ropeway was worth the price...I think in hindsight I would have skipped it and saved the money.

Enjoy the panoramic mountainous view on the top!! There are 2 ropeways which are connected to each other. You take the first one and wait for another to climb up to the top. The waiting time is around 10-15 minutes. The place is quite popular as there is crowded but not too many people.

The ropeway takes us all the way up in what felt like 10 minutes. You can still see snow capped mountain peaks all round. It may be because I visited in early April, so there was not much else to do besides taking photos of mountain landscape. Taking a walk around is snow and more snow. In comparison, Kurodake in... We arrived on 7 Dec, it was snowing and visibility was about zero. My father and I did not go to the top, just the first ropeway. But my sisters went. They said they saw nothing except a snowman. It was -7C up there and the toilets were not working. I saw a small black bear on the top of... More
