Shar i Zinda is definitely my favorite spot in Samarkand. The other monuments ara stunning aswell but SiZ is not över"restored and is still in function as place for pelgrimage. Therefore the place is more authentic then the rest. A lot of stairs!!! People visiting the famous and less famous graves in dignity that makes it a very special atmosphere! More

I can hardly find words to describe this amazing portion of Central Asia. All the five stans have something special to enjoy but this collection of intricately gorgeous architecture is simply beyond description. My East-Site Travel tour operater suggested this as a must-see, and boy, is it ever a must see. The whole experience is not only educational but visually... More

I was quite indifferent to the idea of visiting a necropolis, but this one beats everything you have seen! Take your time and explore it all, it is worth it! More

The second important place of the city. Scale is very nice and the buildings are very attractive. All Samarkand sites are amazing...you must see how the real life is going on...city is still active and the buildings are still used...excellent desitinations...Visit all buildings, you will enjoy a lot..I think Samarkand is the second destination with Bukhara after Khiva. It has hundreds of small mausoleums inside. Some are very simple and are white washed from inside whereas some are very beautiful have a lot of decorative designs. Some are small some large. Every tomb is according to the status and rank of the one buried inside. The most notable mausoleu is of Hazrat Qussam bin Abbas, the cousin of... More

This ensemble of tombs from the 14th and 15th centuries is really, really beautiful, not to mention an incredibly important architectural assemblage well demonstrating the development of Timurid polychrome time decoration.
