A day trip from Buenos Aires to Colonia is a must do. Even though mastering the booking systems of the local ferries is not easy as they are in Spanish. With all instructions about the booking on Colonia Express also in Spanish we didn't realise that we were responsible for printing out the boarding cards. Thank goodness for helpful people... More

Lots of steps but worth climbing for the view. Great attraction to see for roughly $1. Gets a little crowded at the top.

Colonia del Sacramento is the old Spanish/Portuguese town in the Rio de la Plata, just across Buenos Aires. The old town is very nice, very clean and well kept. A day visit is more than enough.

Worth climbing for the view of Colonia Del Sacramento. Be aware that at times the museum employees don't steer the traffic and then it gets tricky for people going up and down to pass each other on a narrow staircase. Be careful!

It was well spend a couple of days in this beautiful place. Touch of history can be seen everywhere. Lazy walking on coble stone “Street of Sights” or ruins and lighthouse will set the roots to your memory forever.

The town of Colonia de Sacramento is located in Uruguay, across the Plata-delta from Buenos Aires. The boat trip takes about one hour. In Colonia the main attraction is the old barrio which has an interesting history, having been founded by the Portuguese but eventually conquered by Spain. The old town is charming and easy and safe to walk around... More

Long, spiral steps, which will tire you. The view is amazing though, worth the climb. PS: it's windy up there, so if it's cold, a scarf is recommended.

Wonderful view from the top, but the stairs to there are too narrow. At the top, wind is very strong. On the other hand, if you visit in a clear day it is possible to see some shadows of Buenos Aires buildings. Of course there is also a wonderful view of La Plata River. I reccomend it.

As far as views go, this isn't the most spectacular. As far as design goes, this isn't the prettiest lighthouse you will see. However, given the cheap admission and the ability to get a top-down sense of the historic district of Colonia, this lighthouse is worth a visit. As other reviewers have mentioned, Colonia is a short express ferry ride... More
