This island despite its St Nicholas (Santa) links, must have been a really useful staging / victualling / post for travellers over millennia. With a good sheltered anchorage and presumably lashings of food and water for sale it must have been an important stop for any travellers from the West. The covered way - reminiscent of a pilgrimage route to... More

We visited this island as part of a boat tour in which we also visited butterfly valley, etc. The island itself was fantastic with lots to see and plenty of trekking to get to the ruins that are higher up, however our boat tour only allowed us 45 minute at this site which is by no means enough time. We... More

We chartered a boat and sailed from Marmaris to Kekova over 2 weeks, we ate all along the coast at many restaurants, pulling into Gemiler Adasi is a magical spot, the view is stunning and well worth the trip. Please, Please, Please be aware of the restaurant on the beach (right side when facing it, with Fethyie over the hill).... More

Please avoid the cafe on the right hand side at beach level, it displays no prices and they rip you off terribly. They have no shame and will demand payment and verbally abuse you if you complain.

Very scenic place with many ancient ruins to explore. Only reachable by boat. The locals know this fact and they try to charge high prices for a short boat trip of 2 minutes (40 Lira for 2 persons). Just prepare yourself to haggle the price a little bit down. For entering the island you have to pay an entrance fee... More

The island is covered in ruins of ancient churches. It is also called St Nicholas Island, named after the saint that lived here and originated the stories of Santa Claus. Yachts moor in the narrow corridor between the island and the mainland.

The ruins on Gemiler are mainly Byzantine but the earliest go back to the 3rd century. You pay a small fee and can wander round the island on your own. The whole island is covered in ruins and was clearly a very thriving commercial port in centuries past.

The island of Gemiler is a fascinating place to visit. You can wander around the ruins of the old monastery and imagine how the monks would live. The views from the top of the hill of the bay of Karacorean are quite stunning.

Decided to visit the bay after reading so many reviews on it, we were not dissapointed as it is a beautiful bay. The only dissapointment fo the day was the rip off restaurant, we got offered free sunbeds from the first restaurant on the right hand side, so decided that yes we would buy a drink while visiting so thought...
