Every Saturday evening (7pm in winter) visitors may observe a Sema. There is a long opening discourse in Turkish only, so if you are not familiar, read up on the Dervishes before you go. Excellent music, song and hypnotic whirling. Best reason to visit Konya. No admission fee. Performance lasted one hour.

If it was not for our tour guide that showed and explained to us, I would not have understood the meaning and the purpose of semazen (dervish). Beautifyl and very spiritual experience. I suugest that you sit right above the orchestra, but make sure that you are dressed warm since the doors are always open and you may feel cold,

Mevlana is the heart of the culture of whirling dervishes. It's not only a cultural but also a spiritual experience for the dervishes and this place is one of the few that does not make the whirling primarily a tourist attraction, but puts it into a context of religious meditation. The entrance is free, just make sure to arrive a... More

If you only see one thing in Turkey make sure it is a Whirling Dervish show. Tobe fair I was not looking forward to this but female pressure prevailed. Well, what a show. 3 musicians, 4 Dervishes and one leader. Extracts and music from the Koran and then the start of the hypnotic dancing and I mean hynotic, one of... More

We were enjoying a cultural tour organised by RSD Travel, and one of the attractions was the extraordinary athletic performance of these Whirling Dervishes. They mesmerise as they swirl around, skirts billowing, always right to left after receiving a blessing until they kneel for prayer. Magical, mystical experience.
