It feels a little odd, watching a spiritual ceremony as part of an audience where you could freely take photos. However it was an interesting experience all the same. The duration was about an hour and a half. It was slow moving and serene, yet strangely compelling to watch.

Just a deeply grounding experience - the authentic deal in the place where it all began. And it was free!

The mevlana whirling dervishes ceremony is excellent but it is definitely low key and religious in nature. We saw the same dance in Cairo last year which was loud and touristy. This is more relaxed and laid back ceremony. We made special effort to get to Konya on Saturday as this performance is only once a week. Don't miss if... More

We had been well-prepared by our guide and knew not to expect a "dance routine", but rather a religious rite. The low lighting, live music and quiet turning was a great experience and we came away feeling very relaxed and uplifted.

presented as a religious islam ceremony, the meaning of everything is hard to understand. so there is no emphasis to make a tourist show, and lacks the energy that can make the dervish dances spectacular. unfortunately the entrance is free, so whole families come with their cubs who start wailing after the first half hour.

If you are in Konya and miss the Whirling Dervish show on Saturdays, you may committed a cardinal sin, as far as Konya tour is concerned. I was lucky enough to see the show with my parents and it truly is a once in a life time experience. I will not go into the details of what does and doesn't... More

Attend the local production. It is comprised strictly of volunteers. Sitting with the locals is far superior than the larger production.

If you are going to Konya be sure to be well informed about Islamic mysticism, Mowlana, Sema ceremony and so on and then you would experience something different in your life, else it may be just boring. Sema ceremony is held all Saturdays about 21 and 21:30 during Ramadan in Mowlana cultural center more than 500 meters from Mowlana Museum.... More

Huge hall with stadium like feel to it Though the show is not as commercial as it may at first imply Best to read up on what to expect from a Sema prior since there is no explanation provided Surprised that you can take pictures throughout so take a camera (I left mine behind but used phone) Arrive early to...
