We quite enjoyed this ceremony but the music went on too long and the whirling went on too long. We particularly pitied 1 young man who looked ill from the beginning because of the twirling.

The famous Whirling Dervishes of Konya. The Dervishes are Sufis. a branch of Islam. They whirl around, attempting to attain communion with their god.

The performance was at a very modern culture centre so not sure where the other reviewers have seen this event at konya as some have mentioned a restored caravanserai. It is definately only shown on a saturday evening at 7pm. In the summer it is apparently also performed on a thursday evening. im my opinion it is not as good... More

A real treat to see inside a genuine caravanserai & learn about the history of these buildings. The ceremony was fascinating - just let the rhythm of the drumbeats and the gradual build up of the music wash over you, its hypnotic. Watching the Dervishes slowly start their trance of worship was unlike anything I have ever seen. Go with... More

This is a must-see in Konya. It is held in a large circular arena every night. Check times online or with your hotel. Photos allowed without flash. Get there early to get your choice of seats. Try to seat facing the band if you can.

Oh, the tourists! Despite polite requests beforehand, there was a constant flare of flash bulbs, chatter and occasional shouts. Someone even wandered down to the stage with their tripod.

We were promised an eperience which would calm the mind. The sufi music was not as good as it ccould have been. I have been to several sufi music concerts in Mumbai, India which were far superior. The whirling dervishes should be congratulated for their ability to spin around themselves but that is all.

My initial plan is to stay for a night but then my goal is to see the whirling dervishes so I stayed in this area for about 8 hours after I took a bus from Goreme. Ensure that you booked your ticket when you are in the otogar (bus terminal) if you wanted to leave same night. The Metro bus... More

It's really great experience as it is the authentic ritual practice instead of those entertainment dervish shows in some places. Everything is perfect during the performance and I'd like to enjoy it again next visit.

The Whirling Dervishes are certainly worth witnessing whilst in Turkey and this is an authentic performance of these devotees of Mevlana. They are accompanied by a mesmerizing traditional band and led in by the head of ceremonies. The devotions are highly ritualised and involve whirling for about three quarters of an hour. After the whirling devotions, guests are offered a... More
