although it was closed this time around i found it very good before with very good views over monistir and the bay it has a small cafe a museum and you are able to clime up to the very top of the tower for the excelent views

This place is well worth the visit ..We walked from our hotel into monastir took us an hour and went a walk around the rebate and what a experience! ! To be on a magnificent place Where the film life of Brian was filmed you won't be disappointed it's great!!!

the Ribat is beautiful, well worth a visit, and well worth the 10 dinar taxi fair, which is about 3 pounds

I totally forgot this was here. first time in tunisia and discovered this was here. monty python fans will love this. setting for some of the funniest scenes in life of brian. was pretty good standing in the setting of some of the funniest lines in the movie, loads of good pics, my wife doesnt understand me tho......well looked after... We walked round this impressive fortress several times but were unable to go inside as they are working on repairing it after the earthquake .It is well worth visiting if you are in the area , especially as it is near the folklore museum & the mausoleum .Also nearby is the Old Town of Monastir with its entrance gates &... These forts built for defending the entire coast can be seen throughout Tunisia. At each fort you can see the next fort somewhere in the distance. While we were there it was under renovation, but as everywhere in Tunisia there was someone there who was very eager to tell us all about the history of the fort and gave us... More

The Monastir Ribat is one of a series of defensive forts built along the north African coast. It was built in 789 AD and had extra towers housing artillery added throughout mediaeval times. Nice to go somewhere that hasn't been draped in a health and safety regime that stiffles the origin of the building

If you just want to look at the outside, then that's fine but if you travel all the way to see the interior you will be disappointed as their work is not even half-done. And from the way I see how they take things slowly (I wouldn't blame them for working under that kind of weather), probably check back again... More

We are huge Monty Python fans so we needed to see where they were filming Life of Brian. We just say the outside and it was beautiful.
