Me and my wife did an elephant ride today and would never do this again. We had a big and probably older elephant and he was walking to slow for the driver. He punched him several times with a sharp knife, even after we said we didn't like it. Other drivers seemed more high on drugs, this place is clearly... More

We had a session bathing the elephant and another going on a short walk through the area around the camp. Never ridden an elephant before and managed to fall off 3 times when in the river. The last time I lost my glasses but nevertheless its an experience we will always remember.

I went to Wangpo elephant camp with 'Tour with Tong' and whilst I had a fantastic day, I later went to the Elephant Nature Park Sanctuary in Chiang Mai, and I can't help but feel guilty now. The elephant we rode was called 'Full Moon', she was an old elephant, you can tell from her markings and how big the... More

Poorly treated elephants and it broke my heart to be a part of it. The elephants are chained up all day with no slack to even walk a metre then the 'trek' takes you through the elephants' living quarters and you can see in the dirt the areas to which their confined when they're not working in the day (about... I read a review that thought these elephants were mistreated, and if I thought that were the case at all, we'd never have gone. Instead, we got to play around briefly with an elephant called Full Moon in the Kwai River and I don't remember my wife laughing and yelling as much on vacation ever. It was a short ride... More

Please please go to a sancuary! Not this tourist train. My wife and I seriously came away from this experience feeling like we killed someone, we couldn't explain the guilt. They treat them so poorly its sad its legal. At one point the guide huge from thr ears with the ice picks. I wish the elephants would do something.

Our tour was booked through Tours with Tong, (see separate review) and our guide was Kung. We had a very early start from our hotel in Bangkok, collected on time. The Elephant Village at Wangpo was fantastic and the highlight of the day. Our elephant was called Full Moon and her mahout was Peter. Full Moon and Peter treated us... More

What a great place to get up and personal to an elephant. Ther local vendors sold corn to the brave souls who had the nerve to feed the elephants. I was a bit of a coward. However, I was able to sit on the elephants leg and have a photo taken. There were plenty of brave folks, who had the... More

Although it was a little touristy the ride was an experience and out guide made a big effort to get us great photographs. I was hesitant about this but the guides generally cared for their elephants and it was a leisurely stroll with many food stops for our elephant. Glad I did this!

We rode elephants $30. a piece down to the River Kwai and around trails. The elephants appeared well treated, they responded to voice commands as the guide got off the elephant and walked ahead of us taking many pictures with our cameras! This was included - they took good care of our camera's and great pics! After the ride we... More
