Possibly one of the best things about Kaohsiung!

I say that respectfully as the food is magnificent but this monument is amazing! I've been to a few 'Big Buddha' statues throughout Asia and this may quite possibly be my... read more

This is a newly constructed temple complex on a grand scale. It has several pagodas (some of which are open and have teaching material within) lining a wide path up to a giant Buddha statue, which sits atop pyramid structure housing a museum. The entrance is via a two story food court catering for many tastes of the large numbers... More

I say that respectfully as the food is magnificent but this monument is amazing! I've been to a few 'Big Buddha' statues throughout Asia and this may quite possibly be my favourite one. I can't be certain but it may have something to do with the fact that the site is a fair way out of the city, so it... More

We were pleasantly surprised when we were taken here on a local tour! We were expecting just another temple! This place is magnificent! We saw monks and nuns, both in training and full fledged monks and nuns. The entire place was very pretty and peaceful. The giant Buddha is magnificent! We enjoyed going in each of the eight pagodas. The... More

Just found the whole experience new and interesting; a must-visit site, I would say. Particularly enjoyed the music and dance performances that were given during our visit. Captivating!

The Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Centre is a very magnificent place to visit. Upon entering the main gate, the giant Buddha statue will come into view right across a big open space flanked by towering stupas. Within each stupa, there are various exhibitions and venues where you could enter. When you reach the memorial hall, remember to visit each... More

We came here for the fireworks on Chinese New Year and really loved the place. It was so beautiful and peaceful - despite the number of people there. In the evening we all sat down on the main strip to watch the firework show, which was really good. We didn't have time to go to the calligraphy room to try... More

This place is quite impressive filled with arts and educational materials about Buddhism. Best of all it's free admission. A must tour to spend a few hrs while in Kaohsiung.

Authentic may not be the right word, but this huge totem to Confucianism is very majestic, but trying to do too much. It is a scholarly place, a vegetarian only place, a holy place, but also massively touristy. I liked the monastery up the hill much better. Still... It is amazing and growing fast.

A must see place in Kaohsiung. See the Fo Guang Shan monastery first and then catch there courtesy car to the Buddha Memorial Centre.
