The Hualien shuttle bus is good value at $250ntd. In one day we did the Baiyun waterfall, lushiu to heliu trail, and swallow grotto. A full day, dont attempt any more than this. Well worth it! You can hire a Taxi at $90/day or a tour bus at $35/head, but this was good and cheap!

Amazingly beautiful natural scenery. Must see in Taiwan. Find Tiffany Chang private taxi - she knows it well. Go early in the day to miss the bus loads of tourists.

Breathtaking scenery, spoilt by busloads of tourists though.... Still worth going there! We had seen a lot of the whole area already when driving through the Taroko National Park though so didn't do all that much hiking after all (too busy for our taste).

Shakadang Trail is arguably the park's best half-day hike. It's 4km in and 4km out, doable in about 3 hours roundtrip even if you walk slowly to enjoy the scenery. For transportation, an all-day, hop-on-and-off bus pass between Hualien and Tianxiang (a town in the middle of the park) is 250 NT$ (about $8US) a person - hands down the... More

If you come late like I do, you'll have a difficult time enjoying the scenery because of Chinese mainland tourist and to make it worse they come in large groups. Just being around them is quite tiring. Trust me it's going to reduce the enjoyment to almost 80 percent. The scenery here is beautiful, it's a wonder that it didn't... More

I've lived in Hualien for nearly 15 years, and traveled to places. Yet Taroko Gorge is still one of my favorite in the world. Not only the gorge itself is stunning, there are also lovely trails for both beginners and adveturers to choose from. ※Some parts of the roads and trails can be closed for weather condition so make sure... Although the scenery can be appreciated without the aid of an official guide I hoped having a guided tour would provide some information that would better enable me to understand and appreciate the landscape. The guide was more interested in talking with her sister than commenting on the sites, and when she did speak her English was very difficult to... More

It is a very good experience, exploring the beauty of the gorges. There are many ways of seeing the sights which a lot travel guides would share with you. 1. Cycling/Bikes 2. Public Bus 3. Self drive 4. Tour Bus 5. Hired personal driver and guide The best way to visit the gorge is to no.5 hire a personal driver... More

What can I say, this is a must see. beautiful and actually easy accesible driving our own car. We went on a weekday from around 11 AM and there were not a lot of people and traffic. When we went back at. around 3 PM all the chinese tourist busses were coming in by hundreds so be early. Lots of... More
