Enjoy the day along the Fort.

Walk the ramparts, and enjoy relaxing wind coming from the see, and walk down to the beach for a few hours of stay and spent the day relaxing.

We spent a leisurely day wandering around the streets of old Galle, taking photos, enjoying the history, browsing through shops, succumbing to gems, taking plenty of cold drinks and enjoying a lovely late lunch at A minute by tuk tuk. Well worth a day.

I lived in the town of Galle for several years from Mid 1980s to 1990s. Most weekends we would visit the ramparts to watch the sunset and relax. Having returned as a visitor I had more time to explore the Dutch fort and its historic buildings. I love this place and keep visiting to see friends as well as the... More

The old town of Galle is an excellent place to spend a day or two wandering the streets and checking out the various boutiques. The shopping and restaurants are good. The varied architecture assure many photo opportunities for enthusiasts. Walking around the walls and doing some people watching is also an enjoyable activity.

Having travelled a lot of Sri Lanka, I was dismayed to encounter in Galle men hanging around the fort area who have 'dancing monkeys'. Please be aware these animals are poached from the wild, and 'trained' to perform for money from tourists (food depravation is one method). Although not illegal as in other countries where this occurs, I hope most... More

This place is a gem! The history is still palpable in this fortified town. When you go to Sri Lanka you really must visit this place.

Love this place. We went back 3 days in a row. If you like places like Penang old town, or Chiangmai old town, you will love this. Lots of quaint streets, with lots of cafes and restaurants. Its really just a wonderful place to walk around, sit around and people watch. If you appreciate unique things - art, architecture, quirky cafes... More
