What people could accomplish in those times, that keeps amazing me. We heared that the Fortifications 'saved' the old town of Galle during the Tsunami, still that strong.

Within the walls there is a vast amount of Dutch architecture. The back street are beautiful and wandered around them 3 times and found some lovely shops and bars.

The ramparts are an easy walk. Sunset was amazing although we didn't get the best by far. We sat in the Rampart Restaurant and watched the world go by, with a cool... More

What was once a Dutch colonial outpost is now a thriving local community of poets, artists, gemstone dealers and boutique shop owners. There's a historic church for every religion dotted around the city, a ton of stray cats wandering about, unbelievably clean cobblestone streets, a... More

Since my last time that place changed a lot. Now its much better. Lots of shops, galleries, restaurants there. Its really worth to stay there for two overnights and enjoying the local ambience there.

Quiet, chic and stylish - shops, restaurants and hotels/guesthouses are all this, and more. The ramparts and surroundings are fascinating - cool breezes!
