The Fort at Galle is special and I would recommend either getting a guide or reading about the Portuguese and Dutch as well as British influences. We went with a guide who rushed us round, so we went back on our own to walk around and really see the place for ourselves. Well worth it. There are the usual amount... more

Kanneliya is one of the last remaining large tracts of lowland rainforest in Sri Lanka. Its importance is on par with Sinharaja, with similar fauna and flora. It is a mix of logged secondary and virgin forest. Wildlife Oddly lowland endemic birds such as Ceylon Rufous Babbler are missing, although other scarce endemic species such as the Serendib Scops Owl... more

Not the World Heritage site... more

Fading, dilapitaded buildings surrounding a few that owners have carefully restored. Grubby and uncared for streets with, in places, piles of uncollected rubbish. Only worth about an hour's visit. Very disappointed with our visit,... more

Galle was ok, just a warning. There are no government Tuk-Tuks in Galle. One of the guys tried to convince me of taking one. which would turned out ot be much more expensive. This is a added trick of those already existing more

great view of the international cricket ground from the fort walls. Really hot as there is very little shade. Found a huge Buddha statue nearby with a small flower market leading to it. Through road very busy as it is the main coast road so its noise, noise, noise but that seems to add to it. Some good places to... more
