We walked through this area on our way to the NY state museum. It wasn't particularly early and we all remarked how deserted it was. We almost felt like we were in some apocalyptic world where we were the only humans left. The long reflecting pool is impressive along with the modern art sculptures. The EGG was an interesting sight... More

We were passing through Albany on our way to Vermont and decided to stop and check out the Empire Center. You can see this place from a distance from the highway and it dominates the Albany skyline. It's a huge complex of buildings with a large courtyard and reflecting pool. The entire place is made of different kinds of marble... More

If you are considering a conversation in the area, don't decide until you see all that this center has to offer.

It may have been state of the art at one time however could use some accessibility updates from the entry area to main floor. When attending functions where meals are served, there needs to be more space between tables for the wait staff to maneuver. Stage is visible to all and sound system adequate.

Highly unusual huge plaza with a long reflecting pool, with 4 tall towers that are very oddly not named! Very futuristic, especially the theatre called the EGG. The 42 story Corning Tower stands opposed to the EGG. The whole place is very striking. The state Capitol is across the street and years behind in more traditional and beautiful architecture .... Our visit was on a Sunday so we didn't had the chance to see the indoors convention center. But the outside is very beautiful. Love the water feature. The view is awesome. On one end is the NY Museum & the other end is the Capital & in a corner the famous Egg. Free parking on Sundays. Overall: Great.

I needed to do some genealogy research on the 11th Floor of the Empire State Plaza because the records are not online. It was absolutely worth the time and effort to get to the records. I paid $10 to park for the day but got everything done in 2 1/2 hours. Follow the directions to the center very closely. There... More

We attended the July 4th Celebration at the Empire State Plaza. It was a festive event with over 30,000 guests, music, dancing, food vendors and other entertainment. The amphitheater is a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the shows. The park is well laid out and beautiful.

The architecture is brutalistic and uninviting. Cold, hard empty spaces. The mall below the surface is hideous. Not a very welcoming place. No help for tourists. Parking is incredibly hard to find (not very well marked). Public restrooms scary. Pitiful food offerings (a LARGE food court with only a few fast-food restaurants worthy of a third tier airport). I would... More

While I love the outdoor part of the center (it has a unique atmosphere), the conference rooms below are airless and stuffy, poorly arranged, and in need of some renovation. The rooms are long rectangular boxes, and it is difficult to see or hear anyone at the head of the room, even with the sound system in use. Walls are... More
