I needed to do some genealogy research on the 11th Floor of the Empire State Plaza because the records are not online. It was absolutely worth the time and effort to get to the records. I paid $10 to park for the day but got everything done in 2 1/2 hours. Follow the directions to the center very closely. There... More

We attended the July 4th Celebration at the Empire State Plaza. It was a festive event with over 30,000 guests, music, dancing, food vendors and other entertainment. The amphitheater is a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the shows. The park is well laid out and beautiful.

The architecture is brutalistic and uninviting. Cold, hard empty spaces. The mall below the surface is hideous. Not a very welcoming place. No help for tourists. Parking is incredibly hard to find (not very well marked). Public restrooms scary. Pitiful food offerings (a LARGE food court with only a few fast-food restaurants worthy of a third tier airport). I would... More

While I love the outdoor part of the center (it has a unique atmosphere), the conference rooms below are airless and stuffy, poorly arranged, and in need of some renovation. The rooms are long rectangular boxes, and it is difficult to see or hear anyone at the head of the room, even with the sound system in use. Walls are... More

I had a couple of visits exploring the plaza while in Albany recently. It is a lovely place . Its like an oasis of tranquility in the madness of life . 2 lakes are surrounded by office blocks on one side and The Egg on the other side At the back a stage area was being set up for a... More

It's a huge office complex housing the NYS Museum, the Plaza (open air with seating, fountains; the Egg performance auditorium (check for pricing). Call NYS information number for events scheduled, which are almost always family friendly. The Concourse houses McDonald's as well as an upscale restaurant;, drugstore and a gift shop (I think?); artwork all along the way. Leads to... More

Nothing special. Some of the events were good. They have boat and car shows in the Plaza area and there is an annual high tech show in the center once a year.

The whole layout is strange, inconvenient and dated. Embarrassing for Albany to host events/shows for out of town guests.

We've had occasion to attend numerous events at the EPSCC in downtown Albany and also have attended events in several other cities. The concourse seems to be lacking compared to what is offered in numerous other areas and parking can be a challenge if your event is during business hours.

Given that this is the Capital of NYS- one would expect the Convention Center to be a little bit better. At the very least the walk ways to the TimesUnion Center should be covered given the weather in Upstate NY- Albany needs to take some tips from Boston- and make the enitre plaza more pedestrian friendly- with covered bridges and...
