Night illumination on the monument is okay. But fortunately, it is closed after 6pm i think. So I can only took photos behind the fences.

This is a good museum to learn about Indonesia’s part in World War II and its struggle with colonialism after the war. The display are in both bahas and English, so it’s easy to navigate through and learn about Indonesia’s history…at least since World War II. The monument was built to honor the soldiers who died while fighting for independence... More

Surabaya is the City of Heroes, the historical spot & the starting point of the independence movement, in the 1950s. So visiting the city without paying a visit to the Monument of Heroes is just a big blasphem !

It is actually Hero's Monument in english. It was built to honor the soldiers killed the battle against the allied forces.who wanted to occupy Surabaya in1945. It is about 40 meters in height. Inside the Monument there are 3 mesuems displaying pictures of the battles which they fought. Around it is a beautiful garden.

Tugu Pahlawan means Hero Monument. Since this is the landmark of Surabaya you might want to visit it. When we were there traffic was really bad. You definitely must take a taxi there, not only driving is a challenge but parking is next to impossible.
