Dances are merged with stories and history in Bali. Many focus on the Sanskrit epics of India which are literature that convey cultural beliefs and structure. The two most well known are the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. The Ramayana has 24,000 verses and portrays the ideal characters of life such as the perfect servant or father. The Mahabharata, is the longest of them all. I

This cultural show - Legong Dance was performed every day (18.00/evening show) in an open air theater. It took 90 - 120 minutes for the whole show. When you have a plan to stay at Ubud Area, don't miss this show. The price is affordable. The show's beautiful and interesting. Better to come earlier to have a comfy seat (there's... More

This is my second choice of dance performances in Ubud, but it is still very fine. The costumes, the elaborate dance moves, the choreography are all very impressive (how do they get their hands and feet to bend like that??). What was a bit overwhelming was the 'orchestra' - the instruments are very, very loud; we noticed a number of... More

Apart from Kecak dance this is a must-see for all visiting Ubud! It is longer than Kecak but very detailed and interesting.

We tried to see it the first night of our arrival, but it seems arriving on the dot, meant a full house and all seats being taken. We again tried the following night, and this time, because we had spent the afternoon shopping at Ubud Market (which was a stone's throw away from this corner), this meant very good seats... More

I never tire of seeing this spectacular show. I felt like a child, again being read bedtime stories of princesses, princes, & demons as I watched. The Ubud Palace was the perfect backdrop for this epic production. The lighting accentuated the rich gold gilded brocades of the dancers, their flashing eyes, & adds mystery & magic to their performance. The... More

This show is a nice way to spend an evening. Try to arrive 20-25 minutes early to obtain a better seat. The best seats are directly in front where the performers will face you. Seats on the side see the musicians but the performers seldom face the side audience. The music is a little repetitious after a while but the... More

Went to a couple of the Legong performances at Ubud palace. Apprehensive at first about buying tickets from sellers outside the palace, but, do it, as opposed to getting them at door, and get there at least an hour early to get the best seats in the house. Definitely recommended to soak in the true culture of Bali.

The cultural performance I saw was called Legong Dance & Ramayana. I really enjoyed myself. I wasn't expecting to as I have been to many of these performances during my visits to Bali and elsewhere, but as I was with a group who were attending, I went along. Of course, the location is amazing, and even more so last night... More

The Palace backdrop is certainly impressive and open-air venue refreshing, but if you have already seen a dance at the Palace and would like a change of scenery, or you want to avoid mosquitos or the discomfort of sitting directly on the ground if you arrive early and are lucky enough to get a front-row seat (been there, done that),...
