I went to Maria's cooking class with my husband and two children. (There were also another two people in the class the same day as us). We all loved experiencing traditional food in Maria's home. Even though Maria's home is small and facilities are very basic ( she keeps things very clean ) she was able to teach us to... More

We found this activity through Voyagin’s website. We had a special keen interest in cooking and thought that dedicating a few hours of our last days in Bali learning a valuable skill sounds great. (Past few days, we jam packed our iteneary with Watersports, Horse riding and ATV). After paying and booking for this event online via credit, we liased... More

Maria teaches Indonesian cooking in her small apartment, typical of local residences. No frills, just traditional cooking methods. We did two chicken dishes, one beef dish, and a vegetable dish. All were very good. It was really interesting learning how to make the spice pastes from scratch. Grinding everything into the correct consistency is harder than it looks. The visit... More

Maria provided confirmation and good communication information in response to my email booking. On the cooking day itself I was collected from my hotel on schedule and taken with the other clients to a local market to purchase fresh produce. We then went to Maria's house in a suburban residential area. I have never done a cooking class in a... More

I'm in two minds about this. It was great having a somewhat "real Bali experience" cooking in Maria's house but I would say this class isn't for those that want a day of luxury. It was long and a little boring but I do think I learnt a lot and have already tried a few recipes (the beef rending is... More

Maria's cooking class was not what we had expected! There was no bang for your buck, we paid $50/person to sit in Maria's house. A majority of the time was spent watching Maria organise her shallot to garlic ratio in her living quarters, seated next to the bathroom as you question the warm chicken, water and hands touching everything. Do... More

Maria has no transport and no computer which adds a few difficulties right from the start. She has a wooden table in her lounge/bedroom that is used for preperation and two gas burners outside. Two people walked in and walked out saying this wasn't what they expected. There is no kitchen just a hose in a plastic bucket to wash... More

Our class consisted of 6 people. Before we arrived in Bali I had emailed Maria and she had emailed me the choice of meals available to make a selection from. We learnt a lot about Indonesian cooking and Maria was happy to share her knowledge of cooking and answer any of the many questions we had. All meals were prepared... More

Delicious, great to see a real Indonesian home & cook real Indonesian food. I was her only student the day I went, this felt a bit strange at first but we soon warmed to each other. made 4 dishes of my choice and took tastings with me for my partner to try, along with many recipes and contact details if... We did Maria's cooking class with another couple. 4 people was a great number. Maria picked us up in a taxi then took us to a market for a quick tour. The market is a real local place and a bit of an eye-opener if you haven't seen Asian food markets before. The class was within Maria's small house. Although... More
