The temple complex is within a high-walled enclosure, at the core of which are the two sanctums for meenakshi and Sundareshwara, surrounded by a number of smaller shrines and grand pillared halls. Madurai is a temple city. The famed Meenakshi Temple with its vastness is a sight to behold. Other places of interest in Madurai are Thiruppanrankundram temple, Thirumalai Nayak Palace and the Light and sound show at the Palace.

It is a huge, historic and always a prime crowded pilgrimage site. The... More

One of the best temples I have ever seen. Great architecture, wonderful ambiance, ponds etc. Very crowdy at the same time. To my opinion, go to temple late in the evening to avoid rush, it remains open till 9:00 pm.
