As is the practice in India shoes have to be taken off and in the case of this temple, socks as well. A camera permit is required if taking photos otherwise mobile phones and cameras have to be left at the door. The security is quite intense. Men and women form separate lines and are body searched. However the temple... More

The huge 4 gopurams will catch your eye with its grand south indian architecture. The city around the temple is well planned. Be sure to spend some time for shops just around the temple. You can find everything right from street vendors to exclusive showrooms. Also do get a sip of the famous 'jigardhanda' around this area. To visit the... More

Very beautiful temple. Enjoyed our visit, a bit crowded but it was worth the visit a lot. We felt very peaceful once inside and and the architecture was lovely.

No words to describe the wonders of the temple. Brilliant and beautiful. A day is not enough to explore and get the best. The 1000 pillar museum is a must to be explored. If not the visit to the city is not complete.

This and Khajuraho were the two best temples I visited in India. And that was a LOT of temples! So that's high praise!

Be prepared to be mesmerized! :) Also be prepared for some pushing around by the crowd visiting the temple.

We went twice to the Temple, spending many hours each time. The first time we went was in the evening to see the ceremony for Shiva's bedtime. The second we spent a morning just wandering the halls, admiring the art and marveling at the craftsmanship and dedication that went into this temple. It is better with a guide, but a... More
