Gurudongmar is a beautiful natural lake in North Sikkim near Lachen. It is situated at about 17,500 ft. amsl. It takes about 3 hours drive from Lachen and passes through a place called Thangu Valley after which a cold desert region starts and no trees or even grass can be seen. You will see lot of Yaks here. The whole... More

at 17100 feet above Mean Sea Level its a wonder lake at the Northern door to Sikkim. It looks much similar to Pangong Tso in Ladakh however the strong winds and freezing temperature combined with the Legend of Guru Rinpoche( Padmasambhava) and Guru Nanak at the back drop of bald mountain ranges dotted with Army bunkers one feels out of... Gurudongmar lake is simply awesome, one of its kind in entire India. We went there in late September, the roads were open, but they may get blocked if it snows. Doesn't matter, the road is beautiful enough, a cold desert without any vegetation, and without even a well-defined road. Some words of advice: 1. Give altitude its due respect. You... More

This is probably the most amazing place in India. 17100 ft above sea level , surrounded by snow capped peaks , guarded by Indian Army lies the blue serene lake in the alpine North Sikkim Cold Desert. Its one of the highest lakes on the planet and the Gurudwara is the highest in the world. The road to the lake... More
