Our family of four which included our 10 and 8 year old children made the trip to Gurudongmar Lake. Given the high altitude, which was a first for all of us there was a niggling sense of uncertainty if the kids would be ok doing the trip. The simple assurance given by Baichung of Hotel Viewpoint that in case of... More

The back breaking ride from Lachen culminated at an enchanting Gurudongmar Lake that felt like a million postcards. Left Lachen early at 3.30 in the morning and stopped at Thangu for some tea and maggi in sub-zero weather....The 4+ hour drive was scenic but super bumpy. Leave early because you need to report back at the Army Checkpost before noon.... More

The holy lake is in the state of Sikkim, at a height of 17100 feet above mean sea level. It is believed that Buddhist Sage Padamsambhava visited this lake in the 8th century and prayed here. It is said that a portion of lake does not freezes even in the winter. For visiting the holy lake permit is required to... More

We, a group of 6 people, went to Gurudongmar Lake on 3-4th April, 2013. In our full stay at Gangtok, it was raining all the time and we thought we would never be able to make it to Gurudongmar in this weather. But we took a chance to go for it. You need a permit to reach Gurudongmar as it... More

We went to Gurudongmar lake on 25th April 2013. When we were planning for the trip with travel agents in Gangtok, most of them adviced us against going there. The road conditions are not good, there could be breathing trouble, weather could terminate the journey at any point, were the usual dissuations. But we decided to give it a try.... More

This is just a beautiful place to visit. Not just this place but the entire journey from Gangtok to Lachen and then to Guru Dongmar lake is marvelous!! Though a bit tedious, we enjoyed the trip. If you take a good car with good suspension, you can enjoy better. Beautiful nature, the roaring rivers, all time dangers of land slides... More

JUST...............WOW. I think it says it all. It was an amazing experience to be there. Beautiful Snow capped mountains view in front of you with fresh air, down there a huge lake which is frozen almost 90% only one part of that lake's water keeps on flowing always, its said that, that part of the lake never freezes (some spiritual... At an altitude of 18000feets approx, with lots of hair-pin turns and bad condition of roads,It needs lots of strenous travelling to reach here. A good vehicle (four wheels only or newer versions as xylo), in good condition, and an experienced driver are must. I have been blessed enough, to visit this place twice. Once in early June 2006. At... More

Today, the heat in Bangalore is getting to me...and my mind wanders to memories of Lake Gurudongmar, in North Sikkim. What an amazing experience it was!! The journey began from Gangtok, passing through Mangan, Chungthang...where the road forks into two. One heading towards Lachung, and the other climbing up to Lachen, at 8000 Ft. Overnight stay at Lachen and an... More
