The place is stunning and worth the back breaking 4 hour journey from Lachen. I don't have much to add besides the points which are already mentioned in the other reviews. However I thought I would share one crucial info based on my personal experience. Please ensure that Gurudongmar lake is specifically mentioned on the permits issued. Most of the... More

Hi, We are a group of 4 wishing to travel to North Sikkim between 31st May and 2nd June. We intent to go to Lachung, Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake. I'm worried about the onset of monsoon in North Sikkim. Does it start raining around that time? Is it safe to go to Sikkim around the aforementioned time period?

Out of the world experience. Though the road condition from Lachen to Gurudongmar lake is treacherous, the view of the sublime lake takes away all the stress and strain of the journey associated with it. A must see for all visiting Gangtok. However a word of caution : Children below 07 years and citizens over 60 years are not allowed... More

Journey to the location 17100 feet is not easy - particularly for folks with Altitude sickness and those who can not get up early. Had to cut short the stay at the location. But still worth all the trouble. It was beautiful and cold morning. Heaven on earth.

The picturesque lake is situated in the state of Sikkim at an altitude of more than 15000 ft is literally a piece of heaven on earth. The serenity, tranquillity and peace is just beyond anything on this earth. The track is rugged and difficult till you reach the army camp. Pleased do not expect anything fancy en route also. A... The journey is really hectic as the road condition is not good at all, specially when ice starts melting in the mid day heat. Better to start as early as one can. The reflections of the ice will mesmerize you with its self-vibrancy. The lake was fully frozen during the month of March. But that was still worth to visit.... More

I visited in April 2014. In fact, my wife and daughter (4 yr old) accompanied me until Thangu at 14K ft but we decided to leave them behind at the tea stall to not risk the health of the little one. Gurudongmar is the sacred lake of Sikkim and is a arduous drive which is worth every pain you endure.... More
