Owner description: Mohanlal Verhomal was the legend of spices in JOdhpur city of Rajasthan. He was the pioneer of the spices. He was the first person to introduce and sell spices to the tourists coming from all over the world. His aim was to provide the best quality and best blends of spices to the foreign tourists. He made JOdhpur city (dry) popular for the spices with his mixing s and best quality spices and service. MV Spices is the old and original spices-seller of the city with great quality and service to the tourist. He and his spices are recommended by all the travel guide books.Unfortunately, Mr.Mohanlal Verhomal expired in 2004, leaving behind his family of seven daughters and his wife. Since they are women, but still they took step against the soceity to continue with the business in this men-dominating society of India. After his death, there are lots of duplicate shops around the market, they all have similar name, as they have-MV SPICES.All the other spices shops start their name with "M"-to confuse tourists. When you will visit the store you will find one of the daughter of Mr.Mohanlal Verhomal to explain you about the spices, teas and saffron. Meanwhile you can have a cup chai with them.More details you will find when you will visit the store.

We visited this shop after reading about it in the lonely planet. We enjoyed a cup of chai while learning about saffron and how to tell real saffron from fake. They let us sample various spice mixes which were all delicious and we left with a full bag of different spices that we're eager to use back home. They ship... More

We loved the shop and the friendly, knowledgable owner. We have used the spices on our return to the UK and bring the very best of India back to us. No pressure, no haggling, just good quality products and delightful service. Thank you for making our visit to your shop such fun.

After having used all spices that I have bought in the shop in Jodhpur I've found the address on Internet and I got in touch with Neelam and she was so incredibly friendly and open. I knew her Father from the time when I worked as a Tour Leader in India but that was many years ago and she trusted... More

Visiting Neelam and her sisters at MV Spices was one of the highlights of our time in Jodphur. Neelam was warm, knowledgable & very professional and gave us lots of information without being pushy or overbearing - a rare experience in the male-dominated marketplace that is India. The sisters also have an amazing story - having no brothers in the... More

The shop was quite busy which was a good sign but we got there near closing time so did feel a little rushed. Very friendly and great English which helped with our little knowledge of cooking these spices. Nice shop and great service. They also say they will send recipes to is at a later stage. The only thing I... More

My friend and I stopped by this lovely shop on a recent trip to Jodhpur and had a wonderful time. Neelam was so patient and helpful, allowing us to taste each spice mixture and explaining what meats would go best with what. She even made us two different types of teas for us to try. The Kashmeer Kawaha tea is... More

This is a good positive shopping experience and whilst the spices are reasonably prices, it is the knowledge of the owner that really makes a difference. Expect to be talked through and shown the difference between real saffron and false saffron and drink tea at the same time. he is warm friendly and without being pushy. Take time enjoy and... More

You will get the best welcome and explanation in this shop about the spices, that are of great quality and fair price. But you could also learn about the great story of the Mohanlal daughters: they succeeded in improving their father's spices business after his death, despite many problems provoked by neighbors and jealous people, in a country where women's... I read about this spice shop in The Lonely Planet before travelling to India and was determined to visit it to buy my spices. I was not disappointed. It is a magnificent little shop crammed full of every spice imaginable. We (our group) received a very warm welcome from Neelam, one of the owners. We tasted her Masala Chai and... More
