Close to the Pakistan border. Fort was very majestic with very narrow winding passage ways. One has to be careful to keep one's head from hitting the roof especially while entering an arch. This was designed specifically to prevent invaders from swarming in.

The minute you are in you have the palace on one side and all the filth on the other. This is a LIVING FORT but not fit for living .Such beautiful golden structures to look at but one is... More

This is one of the gates while entering Jaisalmer Fort. All forts have a series of gates, and this happens to be one of the three (if I remember correct) gates to the fort. As is with other gates, this has nice carvings on the walls and slots/hinges to hold the huge doors. The guide told me that the first... More

The Suraj Pol is the second gate that we encountered while entering the Jaisalmer fort. The first gate being the east-facing Akhey Pol which leads into the vehicle parking area. The second gate, the south facing Suraj Pol has beautiful carvings on top and two massive iron studded doors. The gates of the fort were constructed at right angles / zig... More

When you are primarily going to Jaisalmer to see the fort, you will have to pass through this entrance anyway so it’s impossible to miss. We recommend spending a few minutes to appreciate its design and concept, thinking of its significance to the long-standing defense of this 850+ yr old fort. The Surya Gate is one of the primary reasons... More
