We had a night out here with our 2 young children. The whole area is pretty desperate and run down. I think there was more rubbish than sand! The only redeeming feature is that the kids enjoyed the camel ride. It's only worth coming if you're already in Jaisalmer. And if you do just come out for a sunset camel... More

Good place to visit which is about 1 hour drive from main Jaisalmer city and evenings are best timing considering lot of activities like Chokidani. We visited twice and we really enjoyed the sand dunes by Camel cart and Jeeps.

The romantic image of rolling sand dunes will vanish as soon as you see the hordes of people being dumped at the roadside camel park. This is a commercial nightmare and we felt like staying put. Once on the camels the procession follows a very well trodden path with the frequency of discarded beer bottles increasing as the lumbering advances.... More

My wife and I had long wanted to go Jaisalmer. We finally went there on October 27, 2014 for a couple of days. There we took a camel ride across the sand dunes and watched the sunset. This was the highlight of our trip. The Sam Dunes is a place 25 miles away from Jaisalmer in the Thar desert. We... More

Sam Dunes has become totally commercialized with touts trying to pull each and every person visiting the area . There are several tent camps which offer multiple packages including night stay/ Dinner /cultural programme etc.. The place is littered with beer/ mineral water bottles and Camel droppings. A Camel ride for 30 min's cost around 200 Rs.

Obviously this would be on your itinerary if you are visiting Jaisalmer. We enjoyed our trip to Sam. Some tips to make it better: 1. if you are going in high season, try going to Sam in the morning / noon. It is less crowded, and you have dunes pretty much to yourself, Of course, the mela atmosphere may be... More

Its a small area of sand dunes showcased by the locals for the tourist. The place is interesting for a newcomer and at the same time quite disappointing, as it is littered with beer/liquor bottles, plastic waste etc. The locals offered us to take us to the desert national park on a camel but took us for a round of... These dunes are not very clean, not extra ordinary. Mostly commercial. We visited this place in the morning (hoping to see sunrise) and were bugged a lot to take a camel ride or desert safari ! (we dint though). We visited Khuri dunes in the evening, much clean, better dunes less inhabited ! Anyday prefer Khuri Dunes.

Sam sand dunes is an amazing place, with its typical desert terrain. Its dry hot during day and breezy cold at night. Camel safari at sunset and early morning bare footed walk through sand dunes were the trademark memories of sam sand dunes. We camped at 'Desert Camp', was at the prime location for visiting sam sand dunes. It had... More
