I went to Ponsi to visit this ashram. Indians and foreigners all visit here. It is not very big, has a souvenir/book shop. Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and you can sit around and meditate or just relax. No footwear allowed, so keep them them in free footwear stand opposite the gate. Mobile phones should be switched off. A must visit... More

The Aurobindo Ashram is a definite first on the list of every traveller to Pondicherry. It is the resting place of Shri Aurobindo & The Mother (Mira Alfassa), situated not far from the Beach Promenade & Manakula Vinayagar Temple. The Discipline & Silence that the management maintains is commendable, but the attitude towards tourists is not so good. They do... More

This is a beautiful and serene part of Pondy, but very large. So unless you have a vehicle, be prepared to do a lot of walking. Pay special attention to the design of the houses in the community. You will see many unique, weird and even some startling ones.

Pondicherry means Aurbindo . This is the must place to visit. The peace in the Ashram will take you to mystic world & your soul would feeling a different vibration. Easy to access, however no camera is allowed.

This was probably one of the most interesting things to see. First you take off your shoes across the street, walk across in your bare feet. You must turn off your phone and put away your cameras. Then you walk through a well groomed garden to the main "shrine or tribute" to Sri Aurobindo and the mother. Then there is... More

This is my second visit to aurobindo ashram. You can feel the energy when you enter the ashram, you will be greeted with folded hands and told to maintain silence. Photography is not allowed inside. You can tour the ashram , they also have a book & souvenir section, priced real cheap. I picked up a book. I would suggest... More

We visited the one where they have the Samadhi. They don't let you sit near it nor do they let you linger around. There is an impressive display of flowers near the Samadhi and a book-shop inside the building.Too much of interference by the authorities/trustees/volunteers/representatives! That's about it!!

the Aurobindo ashram ranks high on discipline and utmost easy volunteership. the believers of teh philosophy and those praying to Sri Aurobindo selflessly contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness and the purety of teh Ashram inspite of a string of visitors. Books and photographs of the guru are all over Pondicherry and books for sale are decently reasonably priced. the... More
