Dhauli visits have always been memorable. I have been visiting this place since college days. It was nostalgic to visit the place after a long time.

This place was constructed with Japanese assistance in 20th century. The drive to the stupa is great. The place is well managed. A good place to visit

This is the only Buddhist Stupa built near the battlefield where the the famous historical Kalinga war was fought. Here the King Ashoka's heart was changed seeing the horror and blood shed of the war in which thousands of people were killed. There he accepted the teachings of Buddha for peace and nonviolence.

Dhauli is simply superb. Simply magnificent. Built by emperor Ashoka this stupa tells the tales of kalinga and magadh war. A bloodshed that changed the life of ashoka. A must watch once in life time.

Dhauli Giri Hills have a white Buddhist temple stupa built in the 1970s. Nothing very exotic. The rock edicts of Ashoka on the foot of the hills are the main draw as this was the place where Ashoka embraced Buddhism.

The stupa appears to be very charming from a distance. But ulike other buddhist stupas it is no so well maintained. A very good view of the city can be seen from the top

There is an end to everything. Even the great Ashoka changed his mind after the Kalinga battle. He realized the unpardonable blunder done for his personal wish of ceding the Kalinga kingdom. The emperor became a Buddhist. And started a new life of spreading peace all over the world by despatch of special stupas(pillars) with messages engraved on them.

It was just another day with a teaming crowd of locals bustling around without a clue as to why they were there in the first case. Children and parents seemed to be on a picnic and it was a bit of a mess. Though it is a well known place and part of the must do things when in Bhubaneshwar.
