This is a nice place to visit for the early carvings. There are 34 caves in three sections consisting of buddhist, jain and hindu architecture, that were commissioned by different kings. Be sure to allot at least an afternoon to visit these caves.

This is my favourite place in India. This place of pilgrimage for three religions (hinduism, buddhism and jainism) it's fine both as historical and as an architectural monument. Besides here you will meet all India as indian tourists from all states. The big pleasure too :)
No problems with transport and it is possible to reach this place from Aurangabad...

Ellora is a magnificent place to see. You need an entire day to walk around here. Take lots of bottled water and a packed lunch because there is no where to eat or buy refreshments really during the day while a person is exploring the temples.

I found the main Kailasa Temple(16) to be an incredible feat of human labour but was a bit disappointed with the other caves having seen Ajanta earlier in the day. My 2nd choice if one is only going to visit one site.

If you are visiting India it is worth your while to make your way to Ellora. The fort and the caves are outstanding.

Ellora is staggeringly beautiful- the carvings, caves, temples, sculpture- are one of the most astounding locations you could ever visit. It can be very hot, so bring enough water, and there's a lot of walking, so wear good shoes- but you will find it unforgettable!
