Devagiri, later known as Daultabad, situated 11 kms north-west of Aurangabad, is famous for its formidable hill fort. The fort is situated on an isolated cone-shaped hill from the plain to the height of about 190 metres. The Chand Minar, the Chini Mahal and the Baradari are the important structures within the fort. The Chand Minar, about 63 metres in... More

Another location in Aurangabad that is not being maintained and is in shambles. We decided to do a quick tour and left for Ajanta.

For the history buffs. Walk around the fort and enjoy a trip into the past. Not too tedious, and suitable for all ages as long as you can walk around.

Chini Mahal was a prision for royal prisioner and many of royal captive of king Aurangzeb. The place is in Daulatabad Fort and entire Fort is not in a good condition and requires major repairing. We were not impressed at all by visit.

On one of the levels in Daulatabad fort, we came across a structure which still had some Persion style paintings on the wall. We learnt later from the guide books that these were actually tiles of China clay and that this was used as a prison for royal prisoners!

This structure is names so becasue of Chinese Porcelain work on the walls - some of which can still be seen. The structure is dilapidated and visitors are not allwoed to go inside. For most of its life, this place was used to house political prisoners
