Holy Beach

A very interesting holy beach where a lot of people attend each day with offerings, very colourful and entertaining with clean sand and chairs and umbrellas for hire.

I stayed at Shiva Garden for 2 nights in March 2015 and, as the other reviewers have said, it was lovely. Pros: -Really nice energy in the garden -Friendly guests and a welcoming common area (with wifi) -The staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a room we liked and felt comfortable during our stay -Walking distance... The wave is not so good for swimming, but the conbination of its seasonal beach and north and south cliff did have its charm.

A beautiful beach. Worth taking a room facing the coast. Many guest houses available but I would personally recommend to visit the Varkala cliff after a small walk around the Varkala beach. If you are coming here in a weekend, please expect crowd! a LOT of them. If thats the case just go to the Varcala Cliff and get into... More

Very beautiful but not good for swimming. It is the secondary factor to being in Varkala. All the action takes place on the North Cliff but the beautiful beach below the cliff completes the scenic view.

Went there just for the cliffs. You can keep walking, walking and walking..and at every step you would want to stop and admire the serenity. The cliffs are worth just about everything! A perfect solo getaway destination.

We only spent a week here but I wish it had been a month. We were there in April so it was towards the end of the season. There's no hassle from touts apart from the lady selling pineapples..which was 100rupees (£1.10 or a whole pineapple cut up up in front of you..lovely and refreshing. Very laid back little resort.... Varkala beach is a good place to stay. A lot of hotels cater to the "foreignors" and their food tastes. Not many options for the Indian traveller. Places to see include the Sivagiri mutt.

The South Beach is easily accessible from the South. If you stay in North Varkala, be prepared for a walk down the cliffs South. Or alternatively if you want to swim North, it really is not great for swimming, the beaches North are small and quieter, and I did not feel it was safe to swim. However, for eating, and... More
