We took a rickshaw from the helipad in Varkala to the bridge at Kappil Lake (230Rs) and then spent a couple of hours walking back to Varkala along the beach, with stops to watch the fisherman, see a colourful mosque and stop for a drink at Samsara resort and lunch at Palm Tree Heritage. The beach near Kappil was tourist-free... More

We had a ride in the lake as a part of package with Gateway Hotel, Varkala. The lake is quite big and serene. It is a must watch in Varkala.

This is something we get to see not very often.. Back water on one side and sea on other side with a very good view.. Ideally for a day long picnic to sit and relax in the trees near the back water. No other amenities around. Even in the beach.. there is absolutely no amenities.

For anyone who has travelled in the Trivandrum-Kollam route by Train, Kappil is a place which you will never fail to notice. The magical interplay of land and water, the coconut tree covered islets, people using small country boats for commute and for fishing are certain images that will never leave your memory. Some time back, during one of our... More

I walked from Varkala to here (It is about 5kms from the Thirumvambadi (Black) beach). Pathway is nice, passing around two mosques, some small beaches etc. When I first saw the Kappil beach I was stunned, really worth the one hour walk! Apart from few fishermen, there was noone on this few kms long beach! Great!

This place is superb to have a evening walk and to have a boating ... there is a boating club in kappil - priyadharsini boating club - striving to move forward due to lack of funds ... but dont forget to visit this place ... really superb ...

Kappil Lake is an amazing attraction. The scenic beauty is just marvellous. The best place is the part where the sea meets the lake. The beach there is clean and was not overcrowded. Safari Boat is available for a tour (1 Hour Rs 1000 , 40 mins Rs. 800 and 20 mins Rs 600). A must visit with friends.

Kappil is a hidden gem. Not many tourists, and its very pretty. Cleaner than Varkala. However, please note that there is no accommodation near by. You can visit Kappil as a day trip, spend about 4 hrs or so and return back to Varkala. There are some resorts, but they are not functional and I would'nt recommend staying there.

It was awesome to watch the sea meet the lake at this beach. I got some wonderful pictures of fishermen fishing out here. Plus the surf looked really beautiful. Most of the seaward side is blocked off by the rocks but the rest is good.
