After traveling around India with a group for 3 weeks and spending a week at an ayurvedic healing center, I completed my India journey with 9 nights at Sivananda Yoga Ashram at Neyyar Dam near Trivandrum, in South India. It was a great experience. I had practiced yoga for 12 years previously, but this ashram provided the perfect setting tor... More

If you visit South India you must stay here a short while. Great value accommodation & food for those on a tight travelling budget... I arrived here at the end of my 5 month long trip through India, from the North to the South, and it's good that I arrived here at the end, otherwise I would never have left... More

I am one week into the two week Yoga Vacation Program and I am very pleased. The traditional teaching style is very structured and the ashram rules rub some people the wrong way, but if you are aware and accepting of structure then you will have the opportunity to experience traditional Indian yoga practice in a lovely environment. The ashram... More

The Sivananda Ashram at Neyyar Dam is a place which continues the thoughtful and gentle way of life, which is the way of yoga. Being there is a holistic experience of yoga, including the practice of asanas, talks on spiritual aspects, ayurvedic healing and a natural, healthy diet. It is set amidst a green environment and is right next to... More

I spent two and a half weeks at the Ashram in July 2014. I would describe the experience as being a uniformly positive one. That is not to say that there were not times that I found challenging. In fact, this is one of the best things that I did find. It challenged me – physically, mentally and emotionally. I... More

Great review by nothing002, with only a couple of points to add: 1) hygiene/cleaning practices really need to be improved - why, when the camp is primarily run by foreigners are they not using proper washing liquid for plates/cups and there should be soap available in bathrooms around the camp - I'm sure most guests would gladly pay a little... I spent four days here and could have spent longer. A lovely place and I was making real progress with my yoga. If you head to Varkala afterwards then you can easily continue your practice there. Other yogis head there too! Pros: Yoga twice a day One hour from Trivandrum by autorickshaw, bus or taxi. Well structured program You can... More

Stayed here with a friend for 4 nights on their "yoga vacation" program. Wonderful experience, 4 hours of asana every day, enjoyed the chanting and meditation at morning and evening satsang, unfortunately the 2pm lectures/conversations were awful, karma yoga was enjoyable and varied, and it's fun to take a break and hang out at the health hut. Meals were yummy.... More

I went to this place expecting to get a good, basic intro to asana practice, and I got it. Other good things about this place: it's a great opportunity to meet travelers from everywhere, and the price that they ask for the accommodation and instruction is very reasonable. Now for the stuff that isn't so great. Let me be the... More
